[September 01, 2015]  LINCOLN - On June 13, the Second Annual John Welsh Memorial Ouzo Open was held at the Lincoln Elks.

Funds raised this year have been donated in John Welsh's honor to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.

Honor flights are set up to take veterans all expenses paid to Washington D.C. to view National Monuments and War Memorials that have been erected in their honor. Eldest veterans are given first priority to go on the fully coordinated the trips, which offer assistance in movement if needed as well.

Committeemen Blinn Bates, Jeff Peterson, Dave Bender and George Lacefield coordinated the fundraiser event.

Members of the Welsh family and Bates attended an Honor Flight Dinner on Monday and presented a check for $2,389.80.

"We were very grateful to be able to support such a worthy cause, and think John would have been proud of everyone involved," Bates said.
