MIDDLETOWN
- New Holland-Middletown Elementary District 88’s English teacher,
Mrs. Caitlin Lore, recently earned funding at DonorsChoose.org for a
classroom project called “The Power of Story: Literature Circle
Units.”
|
This project, which significantly increased the size of her
junior high high-interest library, supplied nearly $1,000 in
student-requested books to the District. Mrs. Lore, a second year
teacher and Literacy enthusiast at NH-M, has been passionate about
inspiring students to read.
Some of her unorthodox ideas have included the inclusion of yoga
while reading, a modern re-enactment of Shakespearean drama, a
mandatory summer reading program where students blogged via social
media (Instagram) and a successful pilot of Google Classroom in
which students took “book shelfies” (selfies with books).
The teacher who is transforming literacy in western Logan County
inspired donations from Illinois, New Jersey, Kansas, Washington
state, and others. To learn more about why these donors supported
her project, please visit http:/www.donorschoos.org/project/the-power-of-story-literature-circle-un/1492343.
