LINCOLN
- Danny Tackett will be signing copies of his book, “Big Stories
from a Small Town,” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Prairie
Years, 121 N. Kickapoo St. in downtown Lincoln.
The book is a collection of essays reflecting on Tackett’s youth in
the 1960s in the Tazewell County community of Armington, about 15
miles north of Lincoln. Stories include recollections of characters
such as Doc Lang, the town’s healer; Ham Horner, father of many and
premier catfish angler; Billie Mert Israel, a hot baseball prospect
who chose farming instead; and Gabe Ludden, spinner of tall tales
and the town’s barber.

Some of the essays are about relatives, including Tackett’s
mother, grandmother and his uncles Poddy and Peck.
“Prairie Years has been a very good sales outlet for my book, and
I’m looking forward to meeting friends there on Saturday,” Tackett
said. “For those who have already purchased copies of the book
there, I’d be so happy to sign them if folks would like to bring
their book back to the store.”
Tackett is also planning to staff a booth at the Atlanta Fall
Festival next week and will be signing books there.
