			 Kelly Johnson led off the eighth with a pinch-homer off Stephen 
			Strasburg to tie the score 2-2. It was the second pinch-homer of his

			The Mets, with three comeback wins in a row, lead the National 
			League East by seven games over the Nationals with 23 games left. 
			Washington has lost six in a row to the Mets after winning the 
			season series 15-4 in 2014. 
			 
			Bryce Harper hit a solo homer in the eighth off Tyler Clippard to 
			pull the Nationals within 4-3. It was the second solo homer of the 
			game for Harper, who had three hits. 
			 
			Cardinals 4, Cubs 3 
			 
			ST. LOUIS -- Six outs away from absorbing a three-game sweep that 
			would have sent St. Louis on the road with a four-game losing 
			streak, the Cardinals stunned Chicago with a three-run rally in the 
			bottom of the eighth inning to salvage the series finale at Busch 
			Stadium. 
			 
			Stephen Piscotty supplied the winning hit, lacing the first pitch 
			from Fernando Rodney to the center field wall for a two-run double 
			that scored Peter Bourjos and Matt Carpenter. 
			  
			The Cubs saw their five-game winning streak end, and they fell 7 1/2 
			games in arrears of the Cardinals. They also trail Pittsburgh by 2 
			1/2 games for the first NL wild-card spot. 
			 
			Chicago wasted a dominant outing from starter Jon Lester, who 
			allowed only two hits and a run in seven innings, walking one and 
			fanning seven. 
			 
			Red Sox 10, Blue Jays 4 
			 
			BOSTON - Joe Kelly won his eighth straight start, Ryan Hanigan had 
			three hits, a walk and three RBIs and David Ortiz hit the 498th 
			career homer to lift last-place Boston to its fifth win in the last 
			six games. 
			 
			Mookie Betts, extending his hitting streak to 15 games, homered and 
			doubled in the Red Sox's 13-hit attack. 
			 
			Toronto manager John Gibbons emptied the bench in the sixth inning 
			knowing his team, trailing 10-1 at the time, was headed to New York 
			for a four-game weekend battle for first place with the Yankees. 
			Only Chris Colabello remained in the game and he drilled a three-run 
			homer in the eighth. 
			 
			Orioles 5, Yankees 3 
			 
			NEW YORK -- Steve Pearce broke a tie with a one-out solo home run in 
			the top of the eighth inning as Baltimore rallied past New York. 
			 
			A night after Chris Davis opened the ninth with a tiebreaking home 
			run off Chasen Shreve, Pearce drove a 2-2 breaking ball from Adam 
			Warren over the left-center field fence for his 10th home run of the 
			season. 
			 
			Pearce's homer gave Baltimore its fifth win in the last 20 games. It 
			also prevented the Yankees from potentially moving within a 
			half-game of first-place Toronto, which visits New York for a 
			four-game series this weekend. 
			 
			Davis drove in two runs for Baltimore, getting a bloop single in the 
			first inning and a ground-rule double in the ninth. 
			
			  
			Rays 8, Tigers 0 
			 
			DETROIT -- Jake Odorozzi pitched six shutout innings for his first 
			victory in his last eight starts and the Tampa Bay offense backed 
			him with four solo home runs. 
			 
			Odorozzi (7-8) scattered six hits and struck out six. His last win 
			was also against the Tigers on July 28. 
			 
			Logan Forsythe and Tim Beckham homered and drove in two runs apiece. 
			J.P. Arencibia and Mikie Mahtook blasted solo home runs for the 
			Rays, who snapped a three-game losing streak by taking the finale of 
			a three-game series. Asdrubal Cabrera added a two-run double. 
			 
			Braves 8, Phillies 1 
			 
			PHILADELPHIA -- Julio Teheran pitched seven strong innings and 
			Michael Bourn went 4-for-5 with a two-run triple as Atlanta won its 
			first series in three weeks. 
			 
			Nick Markakis, Freddie Freeman and Hector Olivera all reached base 
			four times for Atlanta, with Markakis scoring two runs and Freeman 
			contributing a two-run single. Christian Bethancourt homered and had 
			three of Atlanta's season-high 18 hits. 
			 
			Marlins 5, Brewers 2 
			 
			MIAMI -- Christian Yelich hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the 
			seventh inning and Tom Koehler snapped a long losing streak as Miami 
			defeated Milwaukee. 
			 
			Koehler, who had lost his past seven starts, including a 
			franchise-record 0-6 record in August, pitched eight innings and 
			struck out a career-high-tying 10 batters. He allowed four hits, two 
			walks and two runs. A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless ninth for his 
			25th save. 
			 
			Miami got to Milwaukee's bullpen in the seventh. Miguel Rojas worked 
			a one-out walk against Tyler Cravy before Dee Gordon got a free pass 
			from Will Smith. That set up Yelich, who hit a two-out, 
			opposite-field double to left center. Martin Prado capped the 
			three-run inning with an RBI double. 
			
			  
			Indians 6, White Sox 4 
			 
			CHICAGO -- Francisco Lindor came within a double of hitting for the 
			cycle to lead Cleveland over Chicago. 
			 
			Lindor came to the plate in the ninth looking for a double off 
			Frankie Montas to complete the cycle. Instead, he flied out to 
			finish the night 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI with his eighth 
			home run of the season. 
			 
			Josh Tomlin allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a win for 
			Cleveland, which won two of three games in the series. Jeff 
			Samardzija lost for the seventh time in his past eight outings. 
			 
			Jason Kipnis went 2-for-5 with an RBI for Cleveland, which got a 
			solo homer from Jose Ramirez. Chicago's first three runs were solo 
			homers off right-hander Josh Tomlin by Trayce Thompson, Tyler 
			Saladino and first baseman Jose Abreu.

			Twins 3, Royals 2 (12 innings) 
			 
			KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Miguel Sano hit a pinch home run with two outs 
			in the 12th inning, lifting Minnesota to a victory over Kansas City. 
			 
			Sano snapped an 0-for-14 skid that included 11 strikeouts by 
			depositing left-hander Franklin Morales' full-count fastball over 
			the left-field fence. 
			 
			Blaine Boyer (3-4) retired all five batters he faced to pick up the 
			victory. Kevin Jepsen worked a spotless 12th to log his seventh save 
			in as many opportunities since being acquired by the Twins on July 
			31. He has 12 saves on the year, counting his time with the Tampa 
			Bay Rays. 
			
			Diamondbacks 2, Giants 1 
			 
			PHOENIX -- Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-run homer in the fourth 
			inning and rookie right-hander Zack Godley gave up one run in 
			five-plus innings in Arizona's victory over San Francisco at Chase 
			Field. 
			 
			Saltalamacchia homered off right-hander Chris Heston with one out in 
			the fourth inning, his second homer in as many games, after David 
			Peralta doubled. Saltalamacchia was a late addition to the lineup 
			after starter Welington Castillo was scratched because of a sore 
			wrist. 
			 
			Godley (5-1) gave up three singles, struck out five and walked one. 
			The Giants' only run scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. 
			Godley, who started the season at Class A Visalia, has made seven 
			appearances this season, five starts, since making his major league 
			debut July 23. 
			 
			Angels 3, Dodgers 2 
			 
			ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Albert Pujols' RBI single in the eighth inning 
			drove home Kole Calhoun with the tiebreaking run, lifting the Angels 
			to a win over the Dodgers at Angel Stadium. 
			 
			The Angels prevented the Dodgers from sweeping the three-game 
			series. 
			
			
			  
			
			The Angels moved within 3 1/2 games of the Texas Rangers for the 
			American League's second wild-card spot. 
			 
			Padres 11, Rockies 4 
			 
			SAN DIEGO -- Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run homer, and Matt Kemp added 
			a solo homer and had two RBIs as San Diego defeated Colorado to 
			continue its mastery of the Rockies at Petco Park. 
			 
			Wil Myers and Yangervis Solarte each had three hits and two RBIs for 
			the Padres. Derek Norris, Melvin Upton Jr., Gyorko and Kemp each 
			contributed two of San Diego's 18 hits. 
			 
			The Padres are 7-1 against the Rockies at Petco Park this season 
			going into the Thursday afternoon series finale. Since the 2013 
			All-Star break, San Diego is 17-4 at home against Colorado. 
			 
			Mariners 6, Rangers 0 
			 
			SEATTLE -- Vidal Nuno returned to the Seattle rotation and ended 
			Texas' run toward the top of the American League West, leading the 
			Mariners to a 6-0 win. 
			 
			Nuno, who was making his first start since Aug. 31, threw seven 
			shutout innings of one-hit ball to earn his first win since June 27, 
			2014. The 28-year-old left-hander had lost 11 consecutive decisions 
			and was winless over 20 appearances before beating the Rangers. 
			 
			Nuno (1-2) struck out a career-high 10 and walked two in the win. 
			Seattle relievers Danny Farquhar and Carson Smith each threw a 
			perfect inning to complete the one-hitter. 
			 
			Pirates 5, Reds 4 
			 
			CINCINNATI -- Jung Ho Kang hit his first career grand slam and J.A. 
			Happ allowed two runs in six-plus innings, then Pittsburgh held on 
			to defeat Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park. 
			
			  
			
			Pittsburgh took two of three in the series to increase its lead to 
			three games over the Chicago Cubs for the National League's top 
			wild-card spot and stayed within 4 1/2 games of first-place St. 
			Louis in the NL Central. 
			 
			Happ (9-7) gave up only three hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts. 
			 
			Astros 11, A's 5 
			 
			OAKLAND, Calif. -- Colby Rasmus, Evan Gattis, Carlos Gomez and 
			Marwin Gonzalez hit home runs, powering Houston to a victory over 
			Oakland. 
			 
			The Astros salvaged a win in the final game of their three-game 
			series and extended their lead in the American League West to two 
			games over Texas. Houston ended its five-game losing streak at the 
			Coliseum. 
			 
			Collin McHugh (16-7) gave up five runs on six hits over 5 1/3 
			innings and won his third straight start despite a rough outing. He 
			blanked the A's for four innings before giving up four runs in the 
			fifth and one in the sixth. He struck out five and walked two.
