Cardinals 4, Cubs 3
Rookie left fielder Stephen Piscotty laced the first pitch from
reliever Fernando Rodney to the center field wall for a two-run
double in the eighth to lead St Louis to a 4-3 win over the Chicago
Cubs.
Third baseman Mark Reynolds started the rally with a one-out walk
against reliever Pedro Strop. Pinch hitter Greg Garcia singled for
the Cardinals' first hit since an RBI single by right fielder Jason
Heyward in the first.

Mets 5, Nationals 3
Center fielder Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run homer off Drew Storen
in the eighth as the New York Mets stunned Washington 5-3 to
seriously damage the Nationals' playoff chances.
Pinch-hitter Kelly Johnson led off the eighth with a pinch-hit homer
off Stephen Strasburg to tie the game at 2-2.
The Mets (78-61) now lead the National League East by seven games
over the Nationals with 23 games remaining.

Marlins 5, Brewers 2
Christian Yelich hit a tie-breaking, two-run double in the seventh
inning as the Miami Marlins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers.
Tom Koehler (9-13) pitched eight innings and struck out 10 batters,
while he allowed four hits, two walks and two runs before closer
A.J. Ramos recorded his 25th save.

Braves 8, Phillies 1
Julio Teheran pitched seven strong innings and center fielder
Michael Bourn went 4-for-5 as the Atlanta Braves beat the
Philadelphia Phillies.

Orioles 5, Yankees 3
First baseman Steve Pearce broke a tie with a solo home run in the
top of the eighth inning as the Baltimore Orioles rallied for a 5-3
victory over the New York Yankees.
Pearce drove a 2-2 breaking ball from right-hander Adam Warren (6-6)
over the left-center field fence for his 10th home run of the
season.

Jake Odorozzi pitched six shutout innings for his first victory in
his last eight starts as his Tampa Bay team mates hit four solo home
runs in the Rays win over the Detroit Tigers.
Odorozzi (7-8) scattered six hits and struck out six.

Pirates 5, Reds 4
Kang Jung Ho hit his first career grand slam as the Pittsburgh
Pirates held on for a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Pittsburgh (83-55) increased their lead to three games over the
Chicago Cubs for the National League's top wild-card spot and stayed
within 4-1/2 games of first-place St. Louis in the NL Central.
J.A. Happ (9-7) gave up only three hits with no walks and 10
strikeouts.

Indians 6, White Sox 4
Francisco Lindor came within a double of hitting for the cycle to
lead the Cleveland Indians to a 6-4 win against the Chicago White
Sox.
Lindor came to the plate in the ninth looking for a double off White
Sox right-hander Frankie Montas to complete the cycle, but he flew
out to finish 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI on his eighth
home run of the season.

Blue Jays 10, Red Sox 4
Toronto manager John Gibbons emptied the Blue Jays bench in the
sixth inning of their 10-4 shellacking at the hands of the Boston
Red Sox.
Gibbons, knowing his team, trailing 10-1 at the time, were headed to
New York for a four-game battle for first place with the Yankees,
figured he'd get his regulars some rest during the final innings of
the blowout.

First baseman Chris Colabello remained in the game and he then
drilled a three-run homer in the eighth inning to narrow the
deficit.

Twins 3, Royals 2 (12 innings)
Miguel Sano hit a pinch home run in the 12th inning to lift the
Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Blaine Boyer (3-4) retired all five batters he faced to pick up the
victory.

Padres 11, Rockies 4
Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run homer while Matt Kemp added a solo homer
and had two RBIs as the San Diego Padres defeated Colorado.
Padres first baseman Wil Myers and third baseman Yangervis Solarte
both had three hits and two RBIs.

Diamondbacks 2, Giants 1
Arizona catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-run homer in the
fourth inning while rookie right-hander Zack Godley gave up one run
in five-plus innings in the Diamondbacks' 2-1 victory over the San
Francisco Giants.
Saltalamacchia homered off right-hander Chris Heston in the fourth
inning after left fielder David Peralta doubled.
Godley (5-1) gave up three singles, struck out five and walked one.
The Giants' only run was scored on a wild pitch by Andrew Chafin in
the sixth inning.

Mariners 6, Rangers 0
Vidal Nuno returned to the Seattle rotation and stymied the Texas
Rangers' run toward the top of the American League West, leading the
Mariners to a 6-0 win.
Nuno, who was making his first start since Aug. 31, threw seven
shutout innings and gave up one hit to earn his first win since June
27, 2014.
The 28-year-old left-hander (1-3) had lost 11 consecutive decisions
and was winless over 20 appearances.
He struck out a career-high 10 and walked two in the win.

Angels 3, Dodgers 2
Albert Pujols' RBI single in the eighth inning drove home Kole
Calhoun to lift the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-2 win over the Los
Angeles Dodgers.
The Angels (70-69) moved within 3-1/2 games of the Texas Rangers for
the American League's second wild-card spot.
The Dodgers (80-59) saw their five-game winning streak end, but they
remained 8-1/2 games ahead of the second-place San Francisco Giants,
who also lost.

Astros 11, Athletics 5
Left fielder Colby Rasmus, designated hitter Evan Gattis, center
fielder Carlos Gomez and first baseman Marwin Gonzalez hit home
runs, powering the Houston Astros to an 11-5 victory against the
Oakland A's at the O.co Coliseum.
The Astros salvaged a win in the finale of their three-game series
and extended their lead in the American League West to two games
