Lincoln struggled in the first two sets dropping them by identical
scores of 20-25 and 20-25. It looked as though the Warriors were
going to finish off the Lynx in three sets as they took a late 21-24
lead, however, a block by LC sophomore Lauren Wendt extended the
game then Wendt served two points to tie the score at 24.
After a Wendt serving error, RL had another chance to end the match,
but LC front row players Peyton Jones and Aira Hanson teamed up for
a block to give Lincoln another chance.
After a Rend Lake sideout, Jones joined fellow freshman Gina Moore
to again deny RLC the win with a block to force another tie at
26-26.
A Warrior hitting error gave LC their first set point opportunity
which freshman outside hitter Kenzie Cooper made the most of with a
kill down the line giving LC the set win 28-26.
Lincoln kept the momentum in set four and rolled to a 25-14 win
setting up a deciding game to 15.
Lincoln got the first two points of the set on serves from sophomore
setter Cassie Jennings and was able to maintain a two point lead
through most of the set.
Lincoln was up 14-11 when Rend Lake made a late surge to tie the
score at 14. A kill by Cooper gave the Lynx another match point
opportunity and, after a long rally, a block by Moore sealed the
come-from-behind victory for LC.
On Saturday, Lincoln stayed hot against Lincoln Trail College,
easily handeling them in three sets (25-14, 25-10, 25- 16). In the
final match of the day, LC faced the St. Ambrose JV squad for the
second time this season. Eight days earlier, St. Ambrose defeated
Lincoln in three close sets. The Lady Lynx got their revenge this
time, by winning the match in straight sets 25-20, 25-21, and 25-21.
Lincoln improved their record on the year to 6-4.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "This turned out to be an incredible weekend
of volleyball.
"We played poorly in the first two sets against Rend Lake, but our
players never gave up and just kept fighting. We started playing
tougher on defense and passing more balls to target in set three.
"However, when RL went up 24-21, I don't think many who watched the
match gave us much of a chance to win. I have to admit, mentally, I
was already working on what to say to the team after the loss, but
our players just would not let them have match point.
"Five times they denied them the win then showed a great degree of
mental toughness to get the job done and win the match. I was proud
of them and super impressed with the effort.
"On Saturday, our passers really stepped up their game and
everything started to click. Lincoln Trail is in only their second
season, so they had a hard time competing, but the St. Ambrose match
was a quality win against a very good program.
"We lost to them at their place about a week ago, but looked like a
completely different team this time. I am very pleased with the
amount of growth our players have shown and excited to see how good
this group can get."
LC continues their home stand on Wednesday evening with a 6:00 pm
match against Robert Morris College of Peoria. The match will be a
benefit night to raise funds for the ALS Research Foundation.
