[September 16, 2015]  SAN FRANCISCO -- Todd Frazier hit Sergio Romo's third pitch of the 10th inning for a solo home run Tuesday night, allowing the Cincinnati Reds to overcome a late rally by the Giants and beat San Francisco 9-8.

The win was Cincinnati's fourth in the past six games against playoff hopefuls, and the Reds evened the three-game series at one win apiece.

The Giants saw their four-game winning streak end.

The homer by Frazier, the All-Star Game Home Run Derby champ, was the third baseman's 34th of the season. It came immediately after the Giants scored twice in the ninth against Reds closer Aroldis Chapman to forge an 8-8 tie.

In fact, the Giants forced extra innings by scoring a total of three times against Chapman in the eighth and ninth innings, tying the score on catcher Buster Posey's one-out single in the ninth that scored third baseman Matt Duffy.

Chapman (4-4), who was shooting for his 31st save, instead wound up with the win. Right-hander Jumbo Diaz pitched around a two-out double by left fielder Alejandro De Aza in the last of the 10th for his first save.

Romo (0-5) allowed just one run in his previous 23 outings.

San Francisco appeared destined for a regulation loss after Reds pinch -hitter Ramon Cabrera capped a wild five-run, seventh-inning rally with a two-run single, giving Cincinnati an 8-5 lead.

Overcoming two outs at home plate and a rare triple review that went against them, the Reds turned a two-run deficit into a three-run lead with the benefit of two Giants errors, two walks and a hit batsman.

After the third Giants pitcher, left-hander Josh Osich, struck out catcher Tucker Barnhart to open the pivotal seventh inning, left fielder Skip Schumaker drew a walk to get things going.

Center fielder Jason Bourgeois followed with a slow roller in front of the plate, and he reached base safely when Osich threw the ball away down the right field line.

Schumaker came around to score, but he eventually was ruled out on video review.

The New York crew also looked at possible baserunner interference on Bourgeois running to first base and apparent fan interference as Giants right fielder Marlon Byrd was retrieving the ball near the Reds bullpen. The panel determined only that Bourgeois indeed was out at the plate, taking a Reds run off the board and allowing the Giants to retain a 5-3 lead with two outs.

But then the roof caved in on San Francisco when right fielder Jay Bruce and second baseman Brandon Phillips sandwiched an error by first baseman Brandon Belt with RBI singles, tying the game.

Right-hander Hunter Strickland, the Giants' third pitcher of the inning, then hit Frazier and walked shortstop Ivan De Jesus Jr., forcing in the tiebreaking run.

Cabrera, who had four hits in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Giants, then followed with his two-run single off righty George Kontos, making it a five-run inning and increasing the lead to 8-5.

Fittingly, the inning ended when De Jesus was tagged out at the plate trying to score on a Kontos pitch that bounced off the backstop.

The Giants rallied against Chapman, scoring once in the eighth when shortstop Ehire Adrianza was hit in the foot with the bases loaded, then again in the ninth on a throwing error by Frazier, which also positioned Duffy on second base for Posey's game-tying hit.

Neither starting pitcher -- Reds left-hander John Lamb and Giants righty Chris Heston -- factored in the decision

De Jesus, who had a two-run triple in a three-run first off Heston, drove in three runs for the Reds. Phillips had three hits and two RBIs.

Posey and pinch hitter Jarrett Parker hit homers for the Giants, who lost for just the ninth time in their past 34 home games. Posey finished with four RBIs.

Duffy had three hits, and Belt added two doubles for the Giants, who out-hit the Reds 13-9.

Heston survived a three-run Reds first inning during which the Giants had right-hander Yusmeiro Petit warming up in the bullpen. De Jesus' two-out, two-run triple capped the inning and gave Cincinnati a 3-0 lead.

Heston allowed only one more hit, and no more runs, before leaving for pinch hitter Parker in the fifth. All told, he surrendered three runs on three hits, walked four and struck out eight in five innings.

Posey's homer, his 18th, got the Giants even in the third, setting the stage for Parker's go-ahead homer two innings later.

Parker's blast came on the first pitch thrown by Reds reliever Ryan Mattheus.

Lamb was pulled after four innings, having allowed three runs on six hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

NOTES: LHP John Lamb's start Tuesday was the 45th straight by a Reds rookie. The last Reds game not started by a rookie was pitched by RHP Mike Leake, who is currently employed by the Giants. ... MLB.com reported Tuesday that the Reds were scheduled to hold a private workout with Cuban star CF Eddy Julio Martinez, a 20-year-old who is considered by many to be the top international free agent currently available to major league teams. The Giants reportedly were among the teams that already worked out Martinez. ... Giants SS Brandon Crawford (strained oblique and calf) took batting practice before the game and attempted to convince manager Bruce Bochy he would be ready to return from a six-game absence in Wednesday's series finale. The manager remained noncommittal.
