Indians 5, Royals 1
Francisco Lindor had three hits and four RBIs, while Danny Salazar
pitched seven strong innings as the Cleveland Indians beat the
Kansas City Royals.
Lindor hit a solo home run, his ninth of the season, in the first
inning, had a two-run single in the second and an RBI single in the
fourth inning.
Salazar (13-8) pitched six scoreless innings before giving up a solo
home run to third baseman Mike Moustakas leading off the seventh.
He gave up four hits, with six strikeouts and two walks.

Red Sox 10, Orioles 1
Dustin Pedroia homered twice and drove in five runs as the Boston
Red Sox scored nine early runs and rolled to a 10-1 victory over the
Baltimore Orioles.
Pedroia hit a two-run homer in the third and added a three-run shot
in the fourth as the Red Sox scored five to go up 9-0.
Boston's designated hitter David Ortiz hit his 501st career homer
with a solo shot in the second.

Marlins 6, Mets 0
Rookie left-hander Adam Conley allowed three hits over seven shutout
innings while the Miami Marlins hit three solo homers in a 6-0 win
over the New York Mets.
Third baseman Martin Prado, catcher J.T. Realmuto and first baseman
Justin Bour all homered for the Marlins.
The Mets' lead over Washington in the National League East fell to
7-1/2 games by virtue of the Nationals' win over the Philadelphia
Phillies.

Nationals 12, Phillies 2
Jayson Werth homered twice, Bryce Harper hit his 40th home run of
the season while Gio Gonzalez matched a career high with 12
strikeouts as the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia
Phillies 12-2.
Harper's two-run blast in the seventh gave the 22-year-old the
National League home run lead over Colorado's Nolan Arenado.

Blue Jays 9, Braves 1
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion was 3-for-3 with
two walks while David Price improved to 7-1 since his trade from
Detroit to Toronto.
Catcher Russell Martin hit his 20th homer of the season with a
runner on in the ninth inning to finish with four RBIs as the Blue
Jays (83-62) maintained their three-game lead over the New York
Yankees in the American League East.
Price, who is 16-5 with a 2.42 ERA overall, struck out nine over
seven innings and the only run he gave up came in the first. He
allowed six hits and walked three.

Yankees 3, Rays 1
First baseman Greg Bird had a double and a home run to lead the New
York Yankees to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Bird's home run off Rays reliever Andrew Bellatti gave the Yankees a
3-1 lead in the top of the ninth.
Yankees pitcher Luis Severino (4-3) struck out seven over 5-2/3
innings to get the win. Andrew Miller struck out the side in the
ninth for his 34th save.

Rangers 14, Astros 3
Texas pounded Cy Young Award candidate Dallas Keuchel for nine runs
as the Rangers ripped the Astros and moved 1-1/2 games ahead of
Houston in the American League West race.
The Rangers wasted no time in getting to Keuchel (17-8), scoring six
runs in the first inning, with left fielder Mike Napoli hitting a
three-run homer and second baseman Rougned Odor adding a two-run
shot.
Designated hitter Prince Fielder hit two of the Rangers' five
homers, including a solo shot off Keuchel in the third inning and a
three-run shot in the sixth off Michael Feliz.

White Sox 9, A's 4
A day after giving up a season-high 17 runs to the Oakland A's, the
Chicago White Sox got some revenge with a 9-4 win of their own.
Led by four hitters who each drove in two runs, the White Sox
charged out to an eight-run lead after four innings and never looked
back.
Carlos Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs while Jose
Abreu went 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, Melky Cabrera went
1-for-2 with two RBIs and Mike Olt went 1-for-4 with a home run and
two RBIs.

Cardinals 5, Brewers 4
Rookie outfielder Tommy Pham hit two home runs to lead the St. Louis
Cardinals to a 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Pham finished with three hits and just missed a third home run in
the eighth, flying out to center fielder Logan Schafer, just a few
feet from the wall.

Cubs 3, Pirates 2 (12 innings)
Anthony Rizzo's sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning lifted
the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates and
edged them closer to the first National League wild card.
Closer Hector Rondon (6-4) pitched two scoreless innings for the win
for the Cubs (84-61), who drew within three games of the Pirates
(87-58) for the first wild card.
The Pirates dropped four games behind the first-place St. Louis
Cardinals (91-54), who won 5-4 at Milwaukee, in the NL Central while
the Cubs stayed seven games back.

Dodgers 2, Rockies 0
Left-hander Alex Wood threw a one-hitter as the Los Angeles Dodgers
recorded a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Wood retired the final 19 batters he faced and finished with five
strikeouts and no walks in eight innings, throwing only 78 pitches
(52 strikes) before closer Kenley Jansen worked a scoreless ninth
for his 32nd save.

Padres 4, Diamondbacks 3
San Diego right fielder Matt Kemp hit a three-run homer in the
Padres' 4-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
San Diego closer Craig Kimbrel got the final four outs for his 37th
save.

Mariners 3, Angels 1
The Los Angeles Angels lost their starting pitcher to a fifth-inning
ejection and were beaten by the Seattle Mariners and are beginning
to lose their grip on any kind of wild-card hopes.
Los Angeles (73-72) are four games out of the American League's
second wild-card spot.
Angels starter Jered Weaver (7-11) got thrown out of the game for
hitting Seattle third baseman Kyle Seager with a pitch.

Giants 5, Reds 3
Right-hander Jake Peavy became the fifth San Francisco Giants
pitcher to hit a home run this season, contributing a solo shot to a
12-hit attack that produced a 5-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Shortstop Ehire Adrianza drove in two runs with a double and a
triple as the Giants (77-69) matched a win by the Los Angeles
Dodgers (84-61) to remain 7-1/2 games behind in the race for the
National League West title.

Tigers 7, Twins 4 (12 innings)
Ian Kinsler hit a tie-breaking RBI single in the 12th inning and
J.D. Martinez followed with a two-run homer that clinched the
Detroit Tigers' 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins.
Martinez hammered a two-strike pitch from left-hander Brian Duensing
390 feet into the left field bleachers. It was the right fielder's
37th homer of the year.
