[September 19, 2015]  NEW YORK -- Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy and Juan Uribe homered Friday night and Steven Matz remained unbeaten as a major leaguer by throwing six solid innings as the New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 5-1 in the opener of the latest regular season Subway Series ever between the big city rivals at Citi Field.

The Mets snapped a two-game losing streak and reduced their magic number for winning the National League East to eight, pending the Washington Nationals' result against the Miami Marlins.

The Yankees fell 4 1/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East by virtue of the Jays' 6-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Diamondbacks 2, Giants 0

SAN FRANCISCO -- Right-hander Rubby De La Rosa and four relievers combined on a two-hit shutout, lifting Arizona past San Francisco.

The win was the Diamondbacks' fifth in a row at AT&T Park and their 10th of the season against the Giants, the first time they've reached double figures in wins over San Francisco since 2008.

Meanwhile, the loss was crippling to San Francisco's playoff hopes. The Giants fell 8 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West with just 15 games to go.

Dodgers 6, Pirates 2

LOS ANGELES -- Zack Greinke won his fifth consecutive start and rookie Corey Seager homered, boosting the Los Angeles Dodgers to over Pittsburgh at Dodger Stadium.

Adrian Gonzalez had a two-run double in the seventh inning as the Dodgers snapped a six-game losing streak to the Pirates. Pittsburgh lost its fourth in a row.

Greinke was charged with two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks in seven-plus innings. He allowed a solo home run to second baseman Neil Walker in the fourth before retiring 11 consecutive batters.

Tigers 5, Royals 4, 12 innings

DETROIT -- Dixon Machado lined an RBI single into the left-field corner with two out and the bases loaded in the 12th inning Friday night to give Detroit the win.

The loss kept the Royals' magic number to clinch the American League Central Division title at six. Any combination of Kansas City wins and Minnesota losses equaling six will hand the Royals first place. The Twins were rained out Friday.

Detroit's Justin Verlander carried a 3-1 lead into the ninth and got the first two outs before being replaced and watching the Tigers bullpen blow a save opportunity.

Rockies 7, Padres 4

DENVER -- Chad Bettis held San Diego to four hits and one run in five innings and Jose Reyes keyed a seventh-inning rally to lift Colorado over San Diego.

Reyes singled home two runs in a three-run seventh, boosting the Rockies' lead to 6-2 after the Padres had trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the top of that inning on first baseman Wil Myers' home run.

John Axford worked the ninth to earn his 24th save in 29 opportunities and eighth in his past nine chances.

Reds 5, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE -- Jason Bourgeois' seventh-inning home run and Brandon Boesch's pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth gave Cincinnati some breathing room in a victory over Milwaukee.

Brandon Finnegan earned his first victory of the season, holding Milwaukee to a run on three hits and two walks in five innings.

Zach Davies went six innings and gave up three runs on five hits and four walks.

Mariners 3, Rangers 1

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Seattle jumped ahead early and held on over streaking Texas.

The Mariners bullpen worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings to snap Texas' five-game winning streak.

Mariners shortstop Ketel Martel went 2-for-4 and accounted for all three runs. The 21-year-old rookie drove in two runs and scored the other.

Athletics 4, Astros 3

HOUSTON -- Danny Valencia hit two home runs, including a two-run blast in the eighth inning that delivered Oakland a win over reeling Houston.

Valencia turned a 3-2 deficit into a one-run lead with his one-out shot to left field off Pat Neshek, his 15th home run.

Valencia, selected off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Aug. 3, finished 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs and is batting .452 (14-for-31) with four homers and 11 RBIs against the Astros in 2015.

Nationals 5, Marlins 4, 10 innings

WASHINGTON -- Jose Lobaton had a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded off reliever Brian Ellington to score Jayson Werth in the bottom of the 10th as Washington kept its tenuous playoff hope alive.

The Marlins tied the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Dee Gordon off closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Washington's Max Scherzer did not earn a decision as he allowed five hits and two runs in seven innings. Scherzer has not won at home -- a span of seven starts -- since he threw a no-hitter June 20 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Braves 2, Phillies 1

ATLANTA -- Atlanta won for just the fifth time in its past 31 games and it was enough to keep them from falling into a tie with Philadelphia for the worst record in the majors.

Andrew McKirahan worked out of two jams and closer Arodys Vizcaino left the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

The save was fifth of the season in six opportunities for Vizcaino.

Rays 8, Orioles 6

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay rallied from an early deficit and struck for six runs in the fifth inning to beat Baltimore.

The Orioles led 3-0 early on a three-run home run by shortstop J.J. Hardy. But the Rays -- still barely alive in the wild-card hunt -- got four doubles in the fifth, and held on despite two home runs from Baltimore's Steve Pearce.

Rookie Mikie Mahtook went 5-for-5 for the Rays, matching a team record and becoming the first Rays rookie to get five hits in a game. But the biggest hit was a three-run double by Grady Sizemore for a 5-3 lead in the fifth.

Indians 12, White Sox 1

CLEVELAND -- Carlos Santana's grand slam off Chris Sale capped a six-run third inning as Cleveland rolled to the victory.

All six runs in the inning were unearned, but they all counted as Sale lost his third consecutive start. Rookie Cody Anderson pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run to get the win.

Rookie shortstop Francisco Lindor also homered for Cleveland, an opposite field solo shot leading off the bottom of the seventh inning, Lindor's 10th homer of the year.

Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 1

TORONTO -- Marcus Stroman continued his comeback from knee surgery with seven strong innings to lead Toronto to the win.

Justin Smoak keyed a three-run fourth inning with a two-run double as the Blue Jays won their third straight game.

Stroman, whose season appeared to be over when he had surgery in March for a torn ACL, has won both his starts since returning in September.

Cubs 8, Cardinals 3

CHICAGO -- Starlin Castro hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the fifth inning and added a three-run home run in the sixth as Chicago routed St. Louis.

Cardinals pitchers walked a season-high 11 batters. Lance Lynn allowed three runs and six walks and dropped to 0-4 against Chicago this season.

Dan Haren gave up three runs -- one earned -- in 4 1/3 innings.

Angels-Twins, ppd.

MINNEAPOLIS --Friday's scheduled game between Los Angeles and Minnesota was postponed because of rain.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday.
