There was plenty of volleyball action in the little town on the
hilltop Friday and Saturday as teams from across the state traveled
to Mount Pulaski to take part in the Mount Pulaski Fall Festival
Tournament.
Eastland won the championship Saturday evening by defeating Mount
Pulaski 25-23 and 25-16.
Lincoln was vying for third place but fell to Williamsville 25-22
and 25-20 to finish fourth in the 16 team tournament.
The tournament kicked off Friday evening with Mount Pulaski
defeating Lena Winslow 25-20, 18-25 and 25-18. The Lady Toppers then
conquered Effingham 25-14 and 25-20.
Lincoln won handily Friday night by defeating Riverton 25-16 and
25-14 and then Fulton 25-18 and 25-18.
Saturday morning both teams were in the win column again with Mount
Pulaski battling back to defeat Burlington Central 17-25, 25-12 and
25-16. Meanwhile, Lincoln took Champaign Central down, also in
three, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-23.
This set the stage for these two teams to go head-to-head in the
semifinals of the Gold Division at noon on Saturday. Mount Pulaski
won that battle, albeit a nail biter at times, 25-23 and 25-22 over
Lincoln. This was also a great coaching matchup between the veteran
Mount Pulaski coach Donna Dulle and one of her former stand-out
volleyball players, Lincoln coach Dawn Crawford.
Moving on to the championship round of the Gold Division, again it
was Mount Pulaski falling to Eastland 25-23 and 25-16. While Lincoln
fell in two to Williamsville 25-22 and 25-20.

Seniors Maddy Davis, Lilly Pickett and junior Alexandra Beckers from
Mount Pulaski each made the Fall Festival All Tournament Team. Davis
dominated the tournament with 67 kills and Pickett tallied 28 kills.
Beckers had an impressive 122 assists for the tournament.
Meanwhile Senior Kaylyn Hoffert of Lincoln represented the Lady
Railers on the all tournament team.
Two other local volleyball players, senior Abbey Galusha and junior
Delaney Edwards, both of Williamsville, also made the all tournament
team.
Both Lincoln and Mount Pulaski have big matches coming up on the
volleyball court this week as Lincoln hosts CS8 conference rival
Sacred Heart Griffin Tuesday night and Mount Pulaski travels to Stag
country Thursday night for what is sure to be a
get-your-moneys-worth matchup during Hartsburg-Emden's Homecoming
2015.

Interesting Notes: Lady Railer
Coach Dawn (Kutz) Crawford played volleyball under Coach Donna Dulle
back in the day at MPHS and was a teammate of Patti (Bottrell)
Davis. Patti is the mother of current MPHS stand-out Maddy Davis.
Incidentally both Dawn and Patti were teammates on the Lincoln
College Volleyball Team.....also back in the day.....we'll leave it
at that!
