 Cardinals 4, Cubs 3
Center fielder Tommy Pham and left fielder Stephen Piscotty homered
as the Cardinals held off the Cubs 4-3 to snap Chicago's five-game
winning streak.
St Louis had sealed a post-season berth on Saturday, despite losing
to the Cubs, when San Francisco lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez (14-7) allowed two runs, struck
out six and walked three in 6-2/3 innings.

Red Sox 4, Blue Jays 3
Rich Hill struck out 10 in seven innings as the Boston Red Sox
defeated the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hill (1-0) allowed seven hits, no walks and three runs in just his
second start of the season for Boston after spending the season in
Triple-A.

Braves 2, Phillies 1
Veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski singled in the winning run in the
ninth inning to give the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 win over the
Philadelphia Phillies.
Peter Moylan (1-0) got the win after starter Julio Teheran was
superb in 8-1/3 innings when he allowed one run on five hits, with
eight strikeouts and one walk.

Indians 6, White Sox 3
Josh Tomlin pitched 5-2/3 scoreless innings and Lonnie Chisenhall
homered, doubled and drove in three runs as the Cleveland Indians
beat the Chicago White Sox.
The right-handed Tomlin (6-2) matched his season-high with eight
strikeouts before Cody Allen pitched the ninth inning to pick up his
31st save.

Royals 10, Tigers 3
Kendrys Morales hit three solo home runs plus a triple to set a club
record for total bases in a game as the Kansas City Royals
overpowered the Detroit Tigers.
Left fielder Paulo Orlando added a two-run shot to help Kansas City
(87-62) move one step closer to the American League Central Division
title.

Nationals 13, Marlins 3
Third baseman Yunel Escobar went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three
runs and Bryce Harper had three hits, a walk and scored three times
as the Washington Nationals thrashed the Miami Marlins.
Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg benefitted from the offensive
explosion as he improved to 10-7 while allowing two runs and six
hits with 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

Rays 7, Orioles 6
Evan Longoria scored on an infield single by Kevin Kiermaier to cap
a ninth-inning rally and give the Tampa Bay Rays a 7-6 win over the
Baltimore Orioles.

Astros 5, A's 1
Right fielder George Springer belted a two-run home run in the fifth
inning while Collin McHugh worked eight strong innings as the
Houston Astros beat the Oakland Athletics.
Springer's 14th home run of the season also scored catcher Max
Stassi for the Astros (79-71).
McHugh (17-7) limited Oakland to one run on four hits and two walks
while notching eight strikeouts.

Twins 8, Angels 1
Torii Hunter, Eddie Rosario and Joe Mauer hit home runs as the
Minnesota Twins snapped a five-game losing streak with an 8-1 win
over the Los Angeles Angels.
The win pulled Minnesota (76-73) even with Los Angeles (76-73) in
the American League wild card race, though both teams are still on
the outside looking in.
The Astros, who beat Oakland, remain ahead of both. The New York
Yankees currently hold the top wild card spot.

Brewers 8, Reds 4
The Cincinnati Reds hit three home runs, two from right fielder Jay
Bruce, but the Milwaukee Brewers used the small-ball approach, which
paid off with an 8-4 victory.
The Brewers collected 13 hits, 11 of them singles, to snap a
season-long eight-game losing streak.
Eight of their hits came in the fifth inning, as they scored five
runs to erase a 2-0 Cincinnati lead.

Giants 5, Diamondbacks 1
The San Francisco Giants finally broke through against the
Diamondbacks' pitching staff, ending a 35-inning scoreless drought
against Arizona with a four-run sixth inning that featured a home
run by catcher Buster Posey in a 5-1 victory.
Right-hander Tim Hudson combined with three relievers on a
six-hitter for the Giants.

Pirates 4, Dodgers 3
Left fielder Starling Marte and first baseman Pedro Alvarez hit solo
home runs to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 victory over the
Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Pirates increased their lead over the Chicago Cubs in the
National League's wild-card race to two games while staying within
four games of the first-place St. Louis Cardinals in the National
League Central.
Gerrit Cole (17-8) retired 14 of 15 batters from the second through
the seventh innings, including 11 in succession.
Cole conceded six hits, three runs and no walks while amassing nine
strikeouts in seven innings.

Padres 10, Rockies 4
The San Diego Padres belted four home runs off Colorado starter Kyle
Kendrick and scored in each of the first six innings as they pounded
the Rockies 10-4.

Mariners 9, Rangers 2
Seattle Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez allowed two runs in
5-2/3 innings in a 9-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Hernandez (18-9) allowed four hits before leaving the game as a
precaution with a stiff right elbow. He is expected to make his next
start after striking out five and walking five.
The loss cut the Texas lead over Houston in the American League West
to 1-1/2 games.
The Mariners gave Hernandez all the run support he needed when they
blew open a 2-2 game with six runs in the fifth inning.

Yankees 11, Mets 2
NY Mets right-hander Matt Harvey, working to an innings limit, was
pulled after five in the midst of a one-hit shutout, and the Yankees
scored five runs in a sixth inning on their way to an 11-2 win in
the Subway Series finale at Citi Field.
Dustin Ackley's three-run homer capped the outburst by the Yankees
(82-66), who won the final two games of the series to move within 2
1/2 games of the American League East-leading Blue Jays heading into
a three-game series in Toronto on Monday.
