Coach's Comments:

"I can't tell you how proud I am of all of our guys in hanging in there during this difficult Regional tournament. I felt that there were 4 teams that had a great chance to win this Regional and we were very fortunate to come out on top.

"At the top of the list for our players, I am so happy for eighth grader Justin Long and so proud of how he performed on the mound today. We had a little bit of a distraction as a team to begin the day, and Justin was given the ball without much notice. He hasn't pitched in a few weeks and he came in and did an amazing job, to say the least. He kept the ball down all day long and faced only one guy over the minimum in his five+ innings of work while striking out nine and walking NONE!  He sat down the Bruins in order in the first four innings of the game to keep us in there.

"We didn't hit the ball very well today and we needed everything Justin had to offer today. Justin did everything that a true eighth grade leader should do.

"I'm also very proud of eighth-grader Alex Bogdanic who had a rough start to his day but hung in there and kept himself ready to go and stayed focused in a tough situation. Alex responded with two big hits in the game and also picked up his first Save of the season by shutting the door on Mount Pulaski in relief of Long in the top of the sixth inning and the final three outs of the seventh inning. Alex was another great example of what great upper classman leaders should be like.

"Next Saturday we will get a chance to avenge our earlier loss to Metcalf in our tenth game of the year.

"They handled us pretty easily with a 13-3 5-inning game up in Normal. There is no doubt it will be a tough task, but this time of the year anything can happen. The key stat of today's game was ZERO walks by Long and Bogdanic.

"If we can keep the ball at knees and move it in and out, we should be in decent shape and will give us a chance to win. I look forward to the challenge, as I'm sure our players do as well.

"Lastly, thank you so much to the Booster Club and Field Crew for putting on a great Regional Tournament. The field looked absolutely amazing! The microphone and between innings music was a great move and made the atmosphere so much more enjoyable for everyone at the game.

"Eric Long, Tony Schilling, and Coach Charlie Miller were outstanding! It makes my job so much easier when all I have to do is worry about who plays where and throwing BP to the kids prior to the games.

"Thanks again to everyone!! Now let's go get 'em on Saturday!!
