Obituary
Randy W. Van Hoorn, age 60, of McLean, died on
Saturday, September 19, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at McLean Christian
Church on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 10:00
a.m. with Mr. Tony Billingsley and Mr. Robert Twist
officiating. Burial will take place at McLean
Cemetery in rural McLean.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 23 from
4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the McLean Christian
Church.
Randy was born on September 29, 1954, in Bloomington
to George Paul and Audra Grace Bicknell Van Hoorn.
He married Laura Swearingen on November 26, 1977, in
Atlanta. She survives.
Also surviving are their children: Bryan (Elizabeth)
Van Hoorn of Austin, TX, Christina (J.W.) Dunnan of
Peoria, and Katie (Jason) Faulk of Greenville, SC;
along with two grandchildren: Delainey Dunnan, age
7, and Audra Faulk, age 1. Randy is survived, as
well, by his father, George Van Hoorn of Atlanta;
and siblings: Carolyn (Dave) Lindley of Glenview,
Jim Van Hoorn of McLean, and Chuck (Debbie) Van
Hoorn of Congerville; as well as three nephews: Josh
(Beth) Polley, Ryan Lindley, and Jake (Briana) Van
Hoorn; and one niece, Melissa Polley. He is also
survived by Laura’s family with whom he was very
close, especially his great-niece Stella and
great-nephew Reed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audra, and
grandparents: Nick and Bertha Bicknell and Paul and
Annetta Van Hoorn; as well as his father-in-law,
Harold Swearingen.
Randy was a lifelong farmer in the McLean-Atlanta
area. He previously served as a firefighter and
first responder for the Mt. Hope-Funks Grove Fire
Protection District, earning the title of “Fireman
of the Year” in 1993. He was an active member of the
McLean Christian Church, serving in the role of
Elder for many years. He was a former trustee on the
Mt. Hope-Funk’s Grove Fire Department, as well as on
the Board for East-Lincoln Farmer’s Grain. He was an
early and avid supporter of the Primetime Country
Opry and enjoyed traveling with Laura to see their
children. In 2012, he realized his dream of seeing
Alaska, where they celebrated their 35th wedding
anniversary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLean
Christian Church or the Mt. Hope-Funks Grove Fire
Protection District.
Randy was loved by all and knew no strangers. He
will be remembered for his integrity, devotion, and
diligence. He will be greatly missed.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home in Atlanta.
