[September 25, 2015]  SPRINGFIELD - Explore solar! View renewable energy systems in action. The Illinois Solar Tour is a FREE self-guided, statewide open house that demonstrates how Illinois homes and businesses are using solar, wind, and geothermal to become energy independent. The Illinois tour is part of a national event coordinated by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society.

Prairie Engineers had solar panels installed on their Springfield office at 6405 Canadian Cross in late 2014, and will join 11 other Springfield area sites hosting tours on Saturday, October 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their office can be reached by taking the Toronto Road exit on Interstate 55 and heading south on the west frontage road (Canadian Cross).

“Choosing to install a solar photovoltaic system at our new office in Springfield was an easy decision to make,” reports Lisa Kramer, President of Prairie Engineers. “This project aligns with one of our core values of creating a more sustainable built environment, and with a breakeven point of less than four years, it’s a smart investment for our future.”

The tour sites are recognized as clean energy leaders for their participation on the 2015 Illinois Solar Tour. Tour hosts will demonstrate their systems and answer questions on how you too can harness the power of the sun and wind to fuel your home and business.

The tour will allow communities across the country the opportunity to see new, innovative technologies locally that benefit the environment on a global level. The tour showcases real-life examples of how individuals are harnessing free energy from the sun to generate electricity, warm and cool their homes, heat water and slash monthly utility bills.

“The Illinois Solar Tour showcases real life examples of the practical, economic and environmental benefits of using clean power to fuel our everyday lives,” said ISEA Executive Director, Lesley McCain. “Now is a particularly exciting time for solar energy in Illinois as Springfield legislators consider Clean Jobs legislation that would boost opportunities across Illinois from city neighborhoods to rural farmlands.”
