To the editor:

This a request for the Citizens of Lincoln and Logan County to offer Financial Assistance to finish the Mill on the original Rt. 66 for a Museum.

Last month the Rt. 66 Museum in Pontiac had 13 Foreign Countries visit their Museum and the Tourism season hadn’t begun yet this year. It has been reported that many tourists from around the world visit their Museum which brings in $2 million dollars to the local economy through the tourists use of Motels, Restaurants, Gas stations and local stores.

Also, Atlanta has success for their museum on Rt. 66. The Palms Grill opened in 2009 and officials state their sales tax revenue has increased by 40 percent.

Route 66 is called the “Mother Road” and brings in tourists from all over the world as well as the United States. Lincoln should reap financial rewards from this famous road as well as Pontiac and Atlanta.

The Mill on Rt. 66 is listed on attractions to visit on tourism brochures and is in the Rt. 66 Hall of Fame. The Mill was built in 1929, and several generations of residents remember eating and dancing at the Mill when it was a restaurant.

According to Ron Keller, past director of the Lincoln College Heritage Museum, 50 percent of the tourists who visit the museum are on a Rt. 66 tour.

Lincoln is really missing out by not having a Rt. 66 Museum.

Your financial support is vital if this project comes to fruition. Lincoln has many tourist attractions to visit, the Lincoln Heritage Museum, Postville Courthouse, Worlds largest covered wagon and with your help the Mill Museum on Rt. 66.

Please send your contribution to Bob Wilmert, President of the Mill on Rt. 66, 13 Illini Dr. Lincoln, Il. 62656. You may also send a contribution by using pay pal to www.save the mill.org. Your name will be listed on a plaque inside the Mill Museum. Your financial contribution is also tax deductible as the Mill Museum is a 501 c 3, not-for-profit corporation.

As mentioned Rt. 66 is a world-wide attraction, and Lincoln deserves a Rt. 66 Museum that is on this route.

Thanks for your help.
Bob Wilmert
