[April 01, 2016]  March 31 (The Sports Xchange) - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said his left collarbone is recovering from surgery and he's looking ahead to offseason workouts.

"My surgery has healed up nicely," Romo said via Twitter on Thursday. "Looking forward to OTAs and a full offseason. Let's go!"

Romo was given a recovery time of 6-to-8 weeks from a surgery intended to stabilize a bone broken twice last season.

Houston Texans star J.J. Watt played with five different torn core muscles during last season en route to winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors for the third time, according to published reports.

The standout defensive end also played with a broken left hand and played three games with a cast to protect it. He also had a back injury during the season.

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed receiver Brandon LaFell to a one-year contract, the team announced.

LaFell caught 111 passes for the New England Patriots over the past two seasons. He was released by the Patriots on March 2.

Fired head coach Tom Coughlin is still waiting for the New York Giants to discuss the advisor role suggested when he was fired in January.

During an interview at a reunion radio show for "Mike and the Mad Dog" Coughlin said he's not counting on any role with the Giants. The team suggested he would remain in a limited capacity or advisor role.

"I haven't heard anything about that," Coughlin said. "I don't think I will be with them in any capacity this season."

Injuries, off-field questions and limited availability put a dent in wide receiver Percy Harvin's production but he insists there is a market for his services in 2016.

Harvin contemplated retirement but Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley said he was informed Harvin does want to play this season. Where he ends up is unclear.

Free agent tight end Vernon Davis agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins.

Davis, who was a first-round pick out of Maryland in 2006, spent 10 seasons with the 49ers until he was traded to the Denver Broncos in October 2015.

Backup running backs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware signed contract extensions with the Kansas City Chiefs.

West became the starter when Jamaal Charles was lost for the season with a knee injury on Oct. 11, and led the team with 634 rushing yards on 160 carries. He caught 20 passes for 214 yards.

After playing all 16 games for the first time in his six NFL seasons, free agent defensive back Walter Thurmond could retire at age 28.

Thurmond moved from cornerback to safety for the Philadelphia Eagles and was part of a stellar duo with Malcolm Jenkins in 2015. But even with offers approaching $4 million per season, Thurmond might decide he's had enough, NFL Network reported.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end Ricardo Mathews to a one-year contract, the team announced.
