The show will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
April 7 at the Lincoln Art Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln,
next to the Post Office.
The “Reflections” theme has been interpreted in a wide variety of
creative ways by LCA artists. Sheralyn Bolton summed it up by
observing, " ‘Reflections’ brought to mind the Easy - mirrors, then
the Natural - water, then the Intimate - thoughts.” She has
succeeding in combining all three interpretations in a new acrylic
painting. Other artists used the theme to explore their own history
or to encourage people to see others from a fresh perspective.
References for works range from Moses Pinkerton’s allusion to
Chicago’s mirror-like Cloud Gate sculpture to Rob Swofford’s
inspiration from the recent survival film, In the Heart of the Sea.
Additional artists participating in the show include Mitch Douglas,
Kira Jackson, Pam Moriearty, Vern Phillips, Kerry Rolewitz, Nancy
Rollings Saul, Tony Shuff, and Cheryl Spove.

The mediums the artists have used to express their ideas are also
imaginative and widely varied. Visitors will be able to see oil and
acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings, copper plate etching,
photography, multimedia works, body paint with blacklight,
sculpture, and written texts.
After the opening weekend, the show will be available for viewing
until April 30 by chance or appointment. Visitors may ring the
doorbell, and if curator Moses Pinkerton is available he will open
the gallery. For an appointment, people may call Pinkerton at
217-651-8355. Also available at the “Reflections” opening will be
information on the May 5, 2016 “Young Artists” exhibit, which will
feature new works by student artists from this area.
