"Reflections" art show a treat for the imagination and senses

[April 09, 2016]   LINCOLN - The Lincoln Art Institute premiered its latest gallery opening Thursday evening with a show entitled “Reflections.” The word may seem simple and straight forward, but it created all sorts of responses from the members of Logan County Arts.

Artist Pam Moriearty was pleased with the results. “The theme was good and stimulated everyone in different directions. The evocative theme generated a rich show,” she said.

Does Reflections mean a glance in a mirror as noted by poet Vern Phillips, or perhaps the sun glinting off a pond as portrayed by Joelle Sawicki. Perhaps it evokes a look back at one’s life as noted in the poetry and photography of Mitch Douglas or the dreams created by Pam Moriearty.

Artist Mitch Douglas said “Reflections…it means a time gone that will never come back. This makes me think of the tail end of my childhood listening to the radio with my family, playing cards, really interacting with my parents and brothers.”

Artist Cheryl Spove was especially pleased with the range of media used in the art. “It brought out the best in people whether the piece was literal or a metaphor,” she said.

“Reflections can give us a different and deeper perspective on reality,” said artist Sheralyn Bolton.

It is obvious that the theme of this month’s art show meant so much and brought out such a varied response, that the art really changes from painting to photo to sculpture to poem as one progresses along the walls of the gallery. This month’s show is one of the finest examples of the talent that resides in central Illinois. The large attendance by visitors to the opening night and glowing comments they made about what was on display attested to quality of the art.
