The Orioles took both games against their American League East
rivals after Saturday's game was postponed because of rain.
Baltimore improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1970.
Mark Trumbo had a pair of singles and is 9-for-19 on the season for
Baltimore. Brad Brach (1-0) got the win by throwing 1 1/3 scoreless
innings of relief, while closer Zach Britton picked up his second
save with a perfect ninth.
Phillies 5, Mets 2
NEW YORK -- Jeremy Hellickson threw 5 2/3 solid innings and Odubel
Herrera hit a two-run homer as Philadelphia won its second straight
game with a victory over New York.
The Phillies took two of three from the Mets for their first series
win at Citi Field since May 9-11, 2014. Prior to Saturday,
Philadelphia had dropped 14 of its last 17 at Citi Field.
Herrera's first homer of the season in the top of the sixth extended
the Phillies' lead to 3-0 and provided valuable insurance for
Hellickson, who allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while
striking out five in earning his first win for Philadelphia since he
was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in November.
Blue Jays 3, Red Sox 0
TORONTO -- Right-hander Marco Estrada pitched seven scoreless
innings, Josh Donaldson homered and Toronto ended a four-game losing
streak with a victory over Boston.
The Blue Jays avoided being swept in the three-game series by the
Red Sox. Estrada (1-0) allowed five hits and two walks while
striking out eight in seven innings.
Red Sox right-hander Steven Wright (0-1) allowed six hits and two
runs (one earned) in 6 2/3 innings. The knuckleballer walked three
and struck out five while making 118 pitches.
Nationals 4, Marlins 2
WASHINGTON -- Jayson Werth had a bloop single with the bases loaded
to drive in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as Washington
beat Miami to split the two-game series.
It was the first hit of the season in 14 at-bats for Werth, whose
one-out hit came against former teammate Edwin Jackson.
The blooper into short center scored Anthony Rendon, who singled for
his third hit of the game, and went to third on a double by Bryce
Harper. Daniel Murphy was given an intentional walk to load the
bases before Jackson came on to face Werth. Two batters later Clint
Robinson drove in two runs with a sharp liner to left-center off
Jackson to make it 4-1.
Reds 2, Pirates 1
CINCINNATI -- Jay Bruce's triple in the bottom of the ninth inning
scored Brandon Phillips from first base to lift Cincinnati over
Pittsburgh in the finale of a three-game series.
Phillips led off the ninth with a single. Two batters later, Bruce
ripped a pitch from Arquimedes Caminero (0-1) to right and Phillips
raced home with the winning run. Ross Ohlendorf (2-0) earned the
victory for Cincinnati.
Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez continued his torrid pace at the
plate with three hits, including a game-tying homer in the sixth.
Royals 4, Twins 3 (10 innings)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Terrance Gore scored an unearned run on a wild
pitch with two outs in the 10th inning to give Kansas City the win. Gore, running for Christian Colon, who led off the inning with a
walk, took third on reliever Trevor May's throwing error on a
pickoff attempt. May's wild pitch got Gore home with a head-first
slide. The Royals did not have a hit in the inning.
The Royals' offense, which was inept for the first eight innings,
scored two runs in the ninth to tie the score at 3. With one out
Lorenzo Cain singled and scored on Eric Hosmer's triple. Hosmer, who
snapped an 0-for-14 slump with the hit, scored on Kendrys Morales'
sacrifice fly.
Twins starter Ricky Nolasco limited the Royals to three hits and one
run -- a Mike Moustakas home run in the sixth -- over seven innings
and departed with a 3-1 lead. It was a lead that Twins left-handed
closer Glen Perkins could not hold.
Cardinals 12, Braves 7
ATLANTA - The Cardinals scored twice after two outs in the eighth
inning to take the lead and added five runs in the ninth to complete
their first three-game sweep in Atlanta since 1988.
Brandon Moss and Matt Carpenter each had three-run homers for the
Cardinals, and the Braves fell to 0-5 for their worst start since
losing the first 10 games of the 1988 season.
Jeremy Hazelbaker had the tying RBI in the eighth inning on a single
and then Stephen Piscotty delivered the go-ahead run with another
hit off Jim Johnson (0-1), who had hit Carpenter with a pitch to
start the two-out rally.
Braves rookie reliever Dan Winkler fractured his right elbow on a
pitch in the seventh inning, making the Braves loss that much worse.
Brewers 3, Astros 2
MILWAUKEE -- Jimmy Nelson struck out nine and Aaron Hill drove in a
pair of runs as the Brewers won their first series of the season.
Nelson (1-1) worked six-plus innings and scattered three hits while
walking four. Jose Altuve crushed Nelson's first offering of the
game for a home run to left and George Springer followed with a base
hit on pitch No. 2.
But Nelson escaped as Springer was caught stealing, Carlos Correa
struck out and Colby Rasmus grounded out.
Dallas Kuechel took the loss, who went 5 2/3 innings and gave up six
hits with six walks while striking out eight.

Cubs 7, Diamondbacks 3
PHOENIX -- Jake Arrieta hit a two-run home run in his 13th
consecutive regular-season victory, and Jorge Soler added a homer
and two RBIs in Chicago's victory over Arizona at Chase Field.
Reigning NL Cy Young winner Arrieta gave up three runs in seven
innings while making his 22nd straight regular-season quality start.
He gave up eight hits and struck out six without issuing a walk. He
has not lost since July 25, 2015.
Tommy La Stella had three hits and an RBI in his first start of the
season, and Miguel Montero added two doubles and an RBI for the
Cubs, who play their home opener Monday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Paul Goldschmidt and rookie Socrates Brito each had two hits and a
homer for the Diamondbacks, and Jake Lamb contributed two hits and
an RBI.
Giants 9, Dodgers 6
SAN FRANCISCO -- Joe Panik hit a two-run, tiebreaking double in the
sixth inning and Johnny Cueto overcame a shaky start to strike out
eight in seven innings of work as San Francisco won for the third
time in their four-game series with Los Angeles.
Buster Posey, Brandon Belt and Angel Pagan hit home runs for the
Giants, who homered in all seven of their games in the first week of
the season, a franchise record for the start of a year.
The Dodgers have lost 11 of their last 14 games in San Francisco.
A's 2, Mariners 1 (10 innings)
SEATTLE -- Coco Crisp picked a good time to hit his first home run
in more than 19 months, sending a two-out solo shot into the
right-field seats in the top of the 10th inning Sunday to lead
Oakland to a win and series sweep over Seattle.
John Axford earned the win, while Seattle's Nick Vincent (1-1)
suffered the loss after serving up the Crisp homer.
The Mariners wasted a Cy Young-type outing from starter Felix
Hernandez, who threw seven shutout innings while allowing just three
hits and striking out 10. Hernandez left with a 1-0 lead after seven
innings, then reliever Joel Peralta gave up a leadoff homer to the
first batter he faced, A's shortstop Marcus Semien, in the eighth.
Rockies 6, Padres 3
DENVER -- Chad Bettis had a much-needed strong start, and Colorado
walloped five home runs in a win over San Diego.
Carlos Gonzalez homered twice, and Trevor Story homered for the
seventh time in his first six major league games for the Rockies.
Padres starter James Shields got 14 ground-ball outs in seven
innings. However, he gave up two homers in the first, another in the
seventh and yielded a key single that helped the Rockies score a run
in the fifth to go ahead. Shields was touched for four runs on six
hits and two walks. He struck out two.
Angels 3, Rangers 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jered Weaver won his first start of the season as
Los Angeles defeated Texas at Angel Stadium.
Weaver allowed six hits, one run, one walk and one hit batter in six
innings while striking out four and throwing 84 pitches. With the
win, the right-hander surpasses Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan to take
over second place in career victories for the club with 139.
Nomar Mazara got three hits in his first three major-league at-bats
and hit his first home run after being recalled from Triple-A Round
Rock earlier in the day by the Rangers.
Indians-White Sox, ppd.
CHICAGO -- Rain postponed the series finale between Chicago and
Cleveland.
The game will be made up at 4:10 p.m. CT on May 23 as part of a
straight doubleheader, the White Sox announced. The teams will play
their originally scheduled game at 7:10 p.m. CT, or 30 minutes after
the opener.
Yankees-Tigers, ppd.
DETROIT -- Early morning snow that morphed into rain prompted
Detroit to call off its scheduled nationally televised night game
against New York.
No makeup date was immediately announced but this was the Yankees'
only visit to Comerica Park this season. The teams will have to find
a mutually satisfactory date when both are not scheduled to play to
make up the game.
