[April 13, 2016]    April 12 (The Sports Xchange) - Former Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants general manager H.B. "Spec" Richardson died Tuesday at the age of 93.

Richardson passed away at his home in Columbus, Ga., due to natural causes.

He is best known for trading away future Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan to the Cincinnati Reds in 1971 in an eight-player trade that brought first baseman Lee May to Houston. Morgan went on to win back-to-back MVP awards as the Reds won consecutive titles in 1975-76.

Catcher James McCann was placed on the disabled list by the Detroit Tigers.

McCann went on the 15-day DL with a right ankle sprain suffered in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Two pitchers were suspended by the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball for violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Alger Hodgson, a right-hander with the Atlanta Braves, was hit with a 72-game suspension without pay for a positive test for metabolites of Stanozolol.

David Graybill, a right-hander in the San Francisco Giants' organization, was suspended for 50 games without pay after a second positive test for a drug of abuse. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
