Obituary
Donna M. Ewing, Ed. D., of Armington, passed away at
3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Bickford
House in Bloomington.
A Memorial Service will be held April 16, 2016, at
11:00 a.m. at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in
Atlanta. Burial will follow in the McLean Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00
a.m. on April 16, at the funeral home prior to the
service.
Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Donna Marie Cook was born April 16, 1936, in McLean,
the daughter of Aaron and Idella Foust Cook, Sr. She
married Nathaniel H. "Nate" Ewing, Sr. on December
24, 1954, in Atlanta. He preceded her in death on
September 1, 2015.
Mrs. Ewing is survived by her children: Nathaniel
"Nate" Ewing, Jr. of Bloomington and Cindy Ewing of
Nashville, Tenn.; and two brothers: Roger (Mary
Jane) Cook of Bloomington and Aaron Cook, Jr. of
Camp Verde, Ariz.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, parents,
and two brothers: Johnnie Cook and Jerry Cook. |
Mrs. Ewing was a 1954 graduate of Atlanta Community
High School. In June 1971, she received her Bachelor
of Education from Illinois State University where
she had been a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She
completed her Masters of Education at Illinois State
University in 1974. In May 1991, Donna received her
Doctor of Education (Ed. D.) from the University of
Illinois, where she had been a member of Omicron Tau
Theta, a national honorary professional graduate
society. Donna was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa,
a professional organization for educators. Mrs.
Ewing taught at Illinois Central College in East
Peoria from 1974 through 1997, as a Professor of
Business Occupations.
Donna was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist
Church in rural McLean and Armington City Council.
Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist
Church Roof Fund, Armington Rescue Squad, or
Hopedale Medical Complex.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
