[April 28, 2016]  April 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Quarterbacks are the marquee attraction in the 2016 NFL Draft when the Los Angeles Rams raise the curtain at Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on Thursday.

In the franchise's return to California, the Rams boldly traded a six picks for the No. 1 overall pick plus two others and are set to stake their future with California quarterback Jared Goff.

It's likely quarterbacks will go 1-2 for the second consecutive year and seventh time in the common draft era (1967).

Not far behind and likely with the second overall pick, underdog Carson Wentz of North Dakota State is expected to be drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL does not plan to reopen settlement talks with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after the four-game suspension was reinstated this week for his role in Deflategate.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the league does not believe the NFL Players Association or anyone from Brady's camp has provided a reason to renew settlement discussions after the suspension was upheld by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York on Monday.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was ordered to appear in a Dallas court May 5 and the judge set bond at $1,500 on a misdemeanor assault charge.

Manziel was formally indicted by a Dallas County grand jury on Tuesday. The misdemeanor domestic violence charge carries a maximum of one year incarceration and a $4,000 fine.

The San Francisco 49ers have not ruled out trading quarterback Colin Kaepernick this week even though recent trade talks with other teams cooled.

A few weeks ago, the 49ers were getting closer to trading Kaepernick to the Denver Broncos. But the 49ers, Broncos and Kaepernick could not agree on who would pay the quarterback's $11.9 million guaranteed salary for the 2016 season.

"I wouldn't say we are out there looking for it, but I wouldn't rule it out," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke told ESPN on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed veteran offensive lineman Dennis Kelly to a one-year contract extension through 2017, according to reports.

ESPN reported the extension adds $880,000 of new money to Kelly's deal. Kelly, 26, was set to enter the final year of his current contract, which will pay him a base salary of $760,000 this season. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
