Aug 2 (The Sports Xchange) - The
St. Louis Cardinals placed All-Star shortstop Aledmys Diaz on the
15-day disabled list and activated third baseman Jhonny Peralta and
first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss, the team announced Tuesday.
St. Louis also added left-hander Zach Duke to the 25-man roster.
Duke was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
Left-hander Dean Kiekhefer and outfielder Randal Grichuk were
optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
Diaz was injured on Sunday when he was hit on the right thumb by a
pitch. No break was discovered during the initial examination but
additional X-rays performed on Monday confirmed a hairline fracture.

The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Julio Teheran on the 15-day
disabled list with a right lat strain.
Outfielder Matt Kemp, who was acquired from San Diego on Saturday,
will fill the roster spot.
Teheran (3-9, 2.81 ERA) exited a start against Colorado on July 22
after scattering three hits in four scoreless innings with right lat
tightness.

The 25-year-old Colombian labored through five innings in his next
outing against Philadelphia on Saturday, taking the loss after
permitting three runs and five hits.

St. Louis Cardinals minor-league prospect Luke Doyle was suspended
100 games for his refusal to take a drug test.
Doyle, a second baseman for Johnson City of the Appalachian League,
had been suspended for 50 games in March for testing positive for
amphetamines, a banned stimulant.
The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball also announced that Drake
Britton, a left-handed minor-leaguer for the Detroit Tigers, was
suspended 50 games after testing positive for amphetamines. (Editing
