Obituary
Joseph “Ben” Melton, 85, of McLean passed away on
Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 8:25 a.m. at the McLean
County Nursing Home.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Melton will be held on
Monday, August 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Quiram
Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta with Mr. Tony
Billingsley officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the
service.
Burial will be at the McLean Cemetery with Military
Rites accorded by the McLean American Legion Post.
Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Joseph Benedict Melton was born on September 9, 1930
in Phillipsburg, Kentucky the son of James H. and
Elzada Wise Melton. He was united in marriage to
Irene Gordon on October 23, 1956. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters: Vicki Melton of
South Carolina, Paula (Al) Radefeld of Bloomington,
Darla Rogers, and Lori (Ed) Maher, both of McLean;
seven grandchildren: Kristin (Brett) Anderson,
Lindsay (Ross) Thompson, Dillon Maher, Staci Rogers,
Josh Rogers, Bunker (Amanda) Hill, and Brein
Huffman. Eight great grandchildren: Harper and
Chandler Anderson, Tanner Thompson, Bunker John
Hill, Noah, Leah, and Ruby Huffman and Eunice Swank;
and one sister, Marie Beatty of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three
sisters and one brother.
Ben served in the United States Army and the
Illinois National Guard. He was retired from
Caterpillar, Inc. after 32 years of service.
He was a member of the UAW 974, McLean American
Legion Post.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's
Association.
