[August 20, 2016]  ATLANTA - Sally A. Young , 80, of Atlanta passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Hospital In Normal.

Visitation:  From 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home

Service:  Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church

Obituary
 

Sally A. Young, 80, of Atlanta, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.  

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Young will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Abel officiating. 

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

 

Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery.

 

Sally Ann Givens was born on October 4, 1935 in Lincoln, the daughter of Frank Eldon and Thelma Lown Givens.  She was united in marriage to Lynn Kent Young on September 9, 1956 at the Atlanta United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on March 13, 2014.

 

Surviving Mrs. Young are her children: Lori (Kurt) Werth, David (LeRae) Young, Leslie (Rod) Lutz, Amy (Steven) Detig, and Deanna (Darin) Crane; thirteen grandchildren: Mallory, Jessica, and Alex Werth; Sean and Kalyn Young; Mitchell, Quinton, and Abigail Lutz; Sarah, Lauren, and Eric Detig; and Brady and Cameron Crane.

 

Sally graduated as Valedictorian from Atlanta High school in 1953.  After high school, she graduated as Valedictorian from Mennonite School of Nursing in Bloomington, Ill. in 1956.  

Funeral Director

 

She worked part-time for a few years for Dr. Ijams in Atlanta and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.  Later she worked for Dr. Tomlinson in Lincoln, and the Lincoln Correctional Center.  She dedicated most of her life to her family, her church, and her community.
 

Sally was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church and Atlanta Methodist Women where she volunteered as choir director, with VBS, church treasurer, and coordinating the annual ice cream social.  She served as a member of the Atlanta Rescue Squad.  She also belonged to the Atlanta Jr. Women's Club for many years and enjoyed playing bridge in two different clubs with friends.  Sally also served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Atlanta Ladies' Cemetery Association for many years.  In addition, Sally enjoyed yard work, especially pulling weeds, knitting, attending her grandchildren’s many events and vacationing with friends and family in the Ozarks every summer.

 

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church, Atlanta Rescue Squad, or the Alzheimer's Association.

 

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
