Obituary

George M. Mitchell, 82, of Lincoln passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016. At Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln

George was born June 7, 1934 in Springfield, the son of George and Blanche Marguerite (Butler) Mitchell III. He married Inez Harbauer on June 12, 1955 in Springfield. She survives.

George is also survived by his children; Steve (Kim) Mitchell of Dunlap, IL, Mary (Tymeri) Cuervo of Claremont, CA. Laura (Joe) Brewer of Lincoln, and George (Gail) Mitchell of Delavan, ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren on the way; one cousin Margaret Little of Glasgow, Scottland. He has been preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

George was a member of Holy Family Church. He proudly served in the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg North Carolina. He belonged to The Lincoln American Legion Post #263, The Knights of Columbus, and Elks Lodge, served as an Alderman on the Lincoln City Council, was a member of the Logan County Board for 4 years, and he also was a manager at Mutual of Omaha. He loved to golf; he was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, he was also a University of Illinois fan, he loved antique cars. Above all else George loved his family and children.

Services for George will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish with Father Simon Taabu officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorial donations may be made in George’s name to Holy Family Food Pantry. Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
