Matt Wieters hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth
inning, giving the Baltimore Orioles a 5-3 victory over the Toronto
Blue Jays.
The Orioles (72-60) pulled within three games of first-place Toronto

Brad Brach (8-2) got the victory thanks to 1-1/3 innings of
scoreless relief. Zach Britton came on the ninth and earned his 39th
save.
Nationals 3, Phillies 2
Trea Turner collected two hits and helped back a strong outing from
starter Max Scherzer in a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Scherzer (15-7) was near-untouchable early and merely terrific late
as he pitched eight innings, gave up two runs on three hits and a
walk.
He struck out 11 to hit the double-digit strikeout mark for the 12th
time this season, a franchise record.
Tigers 8, White Sox 4
JaCoby Jones had two hits and knocked in two runs in his major
league debut and Ian Kinsler drove in four runs, powering the
Detroit Tigers to an 8-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Jones, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Toledo earlier in
the day, drove in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning double and
added an RBI single the following inning.
Kinsler supplied a two-run homer and two-run single, while J.D.
Martinez had three extra-base hits, including a solo homer.
Todd Frazier hit his 33rd homer for the White Sox. Matt Albers (2-6)
was charged with the loss after giving up three runs in one-third of
an inning.
Mets 7, Miami 4
Jose Reyes collected four hits and Curtis Granderson hit two homers
-- one as a pinch-hitter and one after remaining in the game as the
right fielder -- as the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 7-4 in
a battle of National League wild-card contenders.
The Mets (68-64) have won eight of their last 10 games to move ahead
of the Marlins (67-65) in the NL East.
The two teams began 2-1/2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in
the race for the second NL wild-card spot.
Indians 5, Twins 4
Jason Kipnis and Rajai Davis homered and the Cleveland bullpen
pitched seven scoreless innings as the Indians beat the Minnesota
Twins.
The loss is the 12th in a row for the Twins, the third longest
losing streak in team history.
Cleveland trailed 4-1 in the second inning as starter Josh Tomlin
only recorded five outs before being removed from the game.
Dan Otero pitched 2-2/3 hitless and scoreless innings, while Andrew
Miller got the last five outs of the game to pick up his 12th save.
Braves 7, Padres 3
Julio Teheran struck out eight and walked none over seven innings in
a 7-3 victory over the San Diego Padres that ended an eight-start
winless streak.
Teheran (4-9) allowed a two-run homer by Oswaldo Arcia, but just
five other hits while lowering his ERA slightly to 3.12.
Teheran came in getting a major league-worst 2.9 runs of support per
game, but the Braves scored five times in the third inning while
ending the game early for Padres starter Edwin Jackson (3-5).
Rays 4, Red Sox 3
Evan Longoria hit his 30th career home run against Boston to snap a
3-3 tie in the eighth inning as the Rays came from behind to stun
the Red Sox.

Pomreanz with two outs in the seventh.
Clay Buchholz (5-10) then served up Longoria's 21st homer of the
year.
The shot made a winner of reliever Enny Romero (2-0), who worked a
perfect seventh with two strikeouts. Erasmo Ramirez pitched a
perfect eighth and Alex Colome the ninth for his 29th save.

Rangers 8, Mariners 7
Rougned Odor was 3-for-5, including a walk-off, two-run home run in
the bottom of the ninth in the Texas Rangers' 8-7 comeback victory
over the Seattle Mariners.
Texas right-handed reliever Matt Bush, who was on the hook for the
loss after giving up Seattle's go-ahead run on Robinson Cano's
sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, instead earned the victory,
improving to 6-2.
Astros 3, Athletics 1
Colby Rasmus made a triumphant return from the disabled list and
Evan Gattis blasted a home run in support of Colin McHugh, who
pitched six scoreless innings in the Houston Astros victory over the
Oakland Athletics.

his right ear, smacked his 13th home run while Gattis blasted his
22nd home run.
McHugh (9-10) outdueled Athletics right-hander Kendall Graveman
(10-9) and allowed just five baserunners over his six innings while
recording five strikeouts.
Cardinals 3, Brewers 1 (10 innings)
Randal Grichuk's 10th-inning RBI single to shallow right right drove
in the go-ahead run as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee
Brewers.
Jhonny Peralta opened the 10th with a single before Yadier Molina
hit a ground-rule double off Corey Knebel (0-2), setting the stage
for Grichuk's go-ahead hit.
The Brewers loaded the bases in the 10th against Matt Bowman before
Zach Duke struck out pinch-hitter Manny Pina.
Yankees 5, Royals 4 (10 innings)
Jacoby Ellsbury's two-out, 10th-inning infield single scored pinch
runner Aaron Hicks as the New York Yankees outlasted the Kansas City
Royals.
Ellsbury's sharp grounder ricocheted off pitcher Joakim Soria to
third baseman Christian Colon for his fourth hit, matching his
career high.

score as Chasen Shreve, called up from the minors before the game,
got the final two outs for his first save.

Angeles Angels to a 4-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
