Highlights of Thursday's NHL games

[December 02, 2016] Dec 1 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of National Hockey League games on Thursday:

Penguins 6, Stars 2

Sidney Crosby extended his NHL lead in goals with his 16th of the season, and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury won for the first time in six starts in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 6-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

The score was 2-2 when Crosby scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period, deftly batting the puck out of the air and sending it off the back of Stars goaltender Antti Niemi and into the net.

Blackhawks 4, Devils 3 (overtime)

Marian Hossa scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season 1:31 into overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3.

Hossa's winner came immediately after New Jersey's Michael Cammalleri hit the post with a shot attempt. Hossa followed up with the goal for the Blackhawks (16-6-3) on Chicago's next trip down the ice.

New Jersey (10-7-6) dropped its sixth consecutive road game.

Bruins 2, Hurricanes 1 (shootout)

Torey Krug scored the tying goal with 31.5 seconds left in regulation, and David Pastrnak converted the winning shootout strike as the Boston Bruins rallied to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1.

Goalie Anton Khudobin made 29 stops for Boston (13-10-1), which had lost five of seven coming in.

Sabres 4, Rangers 3

Jack Eichel scored twice in the third period to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers.

The second-year pro has four points (three goals, one assist) in his first two games of the season after returning to game action Tuesday after missing the first 21 games of the year with a high ankle sprain.

Blues 5, Lightning 4

Right winger Vladimir Tarasenko recorded the third regular-season hat trick of his career and assisted on another goal to lead the St. Louis Blues to their sixth consecutive win at home, a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Blues improved to 9-0-2 in their last 11 home games while the Lightning suffered their fourth consecutive loss, their longest losing streak of the season.

Oilers 6, Jets 3

The Edmonton Oilers rode a power play reminiscent of their 1980s glory days to a 6-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

With their man advantage quarterbacked by NHL leading scorer Connor McDavid -- similar to how Wayne Gretzky lead the power play during their dynasty years -- the Oilers went 3 for 4 in the first two periods to snap a three-game losing streak and improve their record to 13-10-2.

Islanders 3, Capitals 0

Jaroslav Halak made 38 saves for his first shutout of the season and the New York Islanders scored three third-period goals to defeat the Washington Capitals 3-0.

Shane Prince, Brock Nelson and former Capital Jason Chimera scored in a 4:28 span for New York (9-10-4), which owns its first three-game winning streak of the season.

Blue Jackets 3, Avalanche 2

Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist, Sergei Bobrovsky made 18 saves and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2.

Boone Jenner and Nick Foligno also scored for the Blue Jackets (13-5-4).

Panthers 2, Red Wings 1 (overtime)

Aleksander Barkov's overtime breakaway goal gave the Florida Panthers a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Defenseman Jason Demers also scored for Florida (12-10-2), which got its first win under general manager turned interim coach Tom Rowe, after Gerard Gallant was fired Sunday.

Kings 4, Coyotes 3

Right winger Trevor Lewis knocked in a rebound of Marian Gaborik's deflection with just over four minutes left and the Los Angeles Kings edged the Arizona Coyotes 4-3.

Jordan Nolan ended a 67-game scoring drought with two goals for the Kings.

Flyers 3, Senators 2 (overtime)

Claude Giroux scored his second goal of the game 40 seconds into overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Ducks 3, Canucks 1

Rookie Ondrej Kase scored his first NHL goal as the Anaheim Ducks extended their winning streak to three games with 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
