Local church provides more than 250 coats to Logan County children
Coats to be distributed this weekend at CAPCIL Community Christmas

[December 03, 2016]   LINCOLN - Sunday morning November 27, 2016, the vestibule and sanctuary of St. John United Church of Christ was filled with children’s coats of every size and color.

During the presentation of the 259 coats during the parade of coats down the aisle, it was noted that with this is the 26th year since its inception in 1990 when they began this project with 44 coats. Since then over 3000 coats have been presented to Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois to help them keep kids warm in Logan County.

Also among the gifts were boxes and a basket of mitten, gloves and scarves. In more recent years the congregation has designated their Thanksgiving Offering/gifts to be directed to the Coats Project.

Verdeen Ingram, Mission co-chair along with Marlene Wilmert at St. John thanked everyone for their help and participation again this year.

Ingram then presented the coats along with a basket of mittens, caps and scarves from the members of St. John to the Community Action representative, Breann Titus who with her daughter, Reagan, accepted the gifts and acknowledged what a benefit this was going to be for Logan County youngsters.

Titus announced that the coats, mittens and scarves will be distributed to those who need a warm coat at the Community Action Thank You Program for their clients and staff at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3rd.
