American Legion Auxiliary Unit #263 sponsors Americanism essay contest

[December 13, 2016]  LINCOLN - The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #263 will again sponsor the 2017 Illinois Americanism Essay Contest. The theme for the 2017 Americanism Contest is “What the American Flag Means to Me?”

All Illinois students in the 7th and 8th grades, 9th and 10th grades, and 11th & 12th grades are invited to participate in this contest. Home schoolers will be competing at their own grade level according to age. Deadline date for entering the Americanism Essay contest is February 5, 2017.

State level cash awards are given in Class I – 7th & 8th grades - $100.00 to $200.00; Class II - 9th & 10th grades - $100.00 - $200.00; and Class III – 11th & 12th grades - $300 - $1,200.00 Scholarship awards.

Monetary awards are also given on the Unit and District level.

Lincoln Unit #263 will be awarding $20.00 to each class winner, $15.00 to second place winners, and $10.00 to third place winners. Winning essays will be forwarded to District for judging.

Pamphlets with rules for the 2017 Americanism Essay Contest may be obtained from teachers at the grade school level and guidance counselors at the high school, or Unit #263 Americanism Chairman, Diane Farmer @217-871-1179.
