TE Jared Cook was a full participant in practice Thursday for
the second straight day. That's promising news as the veteran
looks to play Sunday against the Bears, a week after he
sustained a bruised chest.
QB Aaron Rodgers, as expected, didn't practice Thursday for the
second straight day. The team's medical staff is making sure
Rodgers has ample recovery time and rest so he can play Sunday
in the frigid conditions at Chicago with an injured right calf.
Rodgers suffered the calf strain early in the blowout win over
Seattle last Sunday but kept playing until he was removed from
the game early in the fourth quarter.
LB Clay Matthews had limited work in practice Thursday, a day
after being a full participant. Matthews plans to keep playing
with a separated left shoulder, as he has the last two-plus
games in a reduced role. "It's getting better each and every
day, each and every week, we do a little bit more," Matthews
said Thursday. "We'll see what that means moving forward. I
anticipate continuing to come in on the pass-rushing downs and
hopefully spelling some of the guys a little bit more." Matthews
won't know whether surgery will be needed on the shoulder until
he sees a specialist after the season.
DT Mike Daniels was added to the injury report Thursday. The
veteran starter has a shoulder injury that limited his
participation in practice but isn't believed to be serious.
RB James Starks is in the concussion protocol following a car
accident earlier this week. Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy made
the announcement during his Thursday morning press conference
and said Starks was in an accident Monday. McCarthy also said
Starks told him he was "OK".
RB James Starks remained in the mandated concussion protocol
Thursday. Before practice, head coach Mike McCarthy revealed
that the seventh-year pro suffered the injury in a car crash
Monday, which happened in Green Bay. Running backs coach Ben
Sirmans later said Starks is doing fine. Starks' status for the
game Sunday at the Chicago Bears would seem to be highly
questionable. As is, Starks hasn't done much in recent weeks
even though he's still listed as the team's lead back. Converted
receiver Ty Montgomery and Christine Michael have received more
opportunities in the backfield.
WR Randall Cobb had a limited role in practice Thursday for the
second straight day. The veteran starter is recovering from an
ankle injury that briefly knocked him out of the win over
Seattle last Sunday. The expectation is Cobb will play Sunday at
Chicago.
