							Don Hanes, 78, of McLean, passed away at 3:23 
							p.m. on 
							Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at OSF St. Joseph 
							Medical Center Emergency Room in Bloomington. 
							
							  
							
							At his request, there will be no visitation and 
							funeral services will be private, for close family 
							and friends, from 1:00 
							p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on 
							Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Funks Grove Church in 
							Funks Grove.  Burial 
							will follow in Funks Grove Cemetery. 
							
							  
							
							Don was born August 26, 1938, in Bloomington, the 
							son of Delmar and Louise Hoye Hanes.  He 
							married Wanda Hopwood on April 5, 1958, at St. 
							Patrick's Rectory in Lincoln. 
							
							  
							
							Don is survived by his wife, Wanda; one son, Mark 
							(Cathy) Hanes of Hudson; one daughter, Penny (Steve) 
							Billington of Hubert, NC; five grandchildren: Amanda 
							(Allan) Erickson, ID, Amber (Justin) Meyers, 
							Bloomington, Jami (Mike) Welch, MO, Taylor Hanes, 
							Bloomington, and Delanie Hanes, Normal; eleven 
							great-grandchildren; and several cousins. 
							
							  
							
							He was preceded in death by his parents and his only 
							grandson, Jesse Edward "J.R." Conn of MO.  | 
                
                 
							
							Don belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in 
							Bloomington.  He 
							was an avid NASCAR fan, motorcycle and classic car 
							enthusiast.  He 
							won several trophies at car shows with his 1950 
							Chevrolet, which he completely restored himself, and 
							his 1949 restored Chevrolet, with which he won Best 
							of Show at Clinton, the last show he attended.  They 
							were his pride and joy, along with his family.  He 
							will be missed. 
							
							  
							
							After both retired, Don and Wanda spent their 
							winters in Florida and made many friends there. 
							
							  
							
							Memorials may be made to Mt. Hope-Funks Grove Fire 
							and Rescue Department in McLean. 
							
							  
							
							Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley 
							Funeral Home in Atlanta.
