							Obituary 
							 
							Doris Jean Carter, 85, of Lincoln passed away at 
							3:10 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. John’s 
							Hospital in Springfield.
 Doris was born on April 18, 1931, in New Holland, 
							the daughter of Earl Henry and Callie (Pedigo) 
							Behrens. She married Gerald R. Carter on October 22, 
							1949. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2001.
 
 Doris is survived by her son, James L. (James W. 
							Schmeltzer) Carter of Chicago; son-in-law, David 
							Laesch of Mount Pulaski; daughter-in-law, Karen 
							Carter of Chestnut; her grandchildren, Dee Anderson 
							of Mount Pulaski, Russ (Sarah) Laesch of Fort Wayne, 
							IN, Jamie (Andy) Vaughan of Mount Pulaski, Rachel 
							(Scott) Getzelman of Clinton; and her nine 
							great-grandchildren.
 
							She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 
							her son, Kenneth Ray Carter, her daughter, Mary 
							Edith Laesch, and her infant sister.

							Doris was a volunteer at Abraham Lincoln Memorial 
							Hospital for over 40 years. She was part of the Home 
							Extension group. Doris loved family gatherings, as 
							well as sewing and painting. She was a proud member 
							of the stitching club “Stitchers” at Serendipity in 
							Lincoln. Doris also loved going to breakfast on 
							Wednesday morning with “The Ladies”.
 A memorial service for Doris will be held at 10:30 
							a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at First United 
							Methodist Church in Lincoln, officiated by Rev. 
							Michael Paulson. Visitation will be held from 
							4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 
							Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. 
							Burial will take place in Harmony Cemetery after the 
							services.
 
 Memorial donations may be made in Doris’ name to 
							Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital or First United 
							Methodist Church in Lincoln.
