[December 29, 2016]  MORTON -  Roy Smith Baker, 90, of Morton, passed away December 22, 2016 at OSF ST. Francis Hospital in Peoria.
 

Visitation: 11 a.m. until Noon Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Service: Noon Wednesday at the funeral home

Obituary

Roy Smith Baker, 90, of Morton, passed away December 22, 2016 at OSF ST. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until Noon Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. Funeral services will be at Noon Wednesday also the funeral home with Pastor Lori Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Roy was born November 1, 1926, in Lincoln, the son of Roy Edward Baker and Myrtle M. (Smith) Baker. He married Laurel Purviance on January 6, 1952, in Lincoln. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He was stationed at Fort Sam Huston, 5th Army, G2 in San Antonio, Texas where he earned the rank of Private First Class. He attended Atlanta and Lincoln grade schools and continued his education at the University of Illinois and Bradley University.

 

Roy was employed at Caterpillar for 44 years, holding a management position for 40 of those years. He enjoyed history and reading about history. He enjoyed building and working with tools, traveling with his family, and being outdoors in his yard. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife Laurel Baker of Morton, son David Roy Baker Sr. and wife Janet and grandson David Roy Baker Jr. all of Morton, and sister Lois Ann Baker of Carthage, MO.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the organization of the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
