[December 29, 2016]  LINCOLN - James Edward "Jim" Pinney, 84, of Lincoln, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at his home surrounded by his wife and family after fighting a long hard battle with cancer.
 

Visitation: Friday, December 30, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln

Service: Friday at 3 p.m. at the church

Obituary

James Edward "Jim" Pinney, 84, of Lincoln, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at his home surrounded by his wife and family after fighting a long hard battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Chicago, Il on January 19, 1932, the son of Edward Earl and Gertrude Mary (Dorsett) Pinney. He married Joyce Jean Smith on September 28, 1953. She survives in Lincoln.

Jim is survived by four children: Debra J. Maaks of Lincoln, James J. (Becky) Pinney of Atlanta, Darla M. Pinney of Lincoln and daughter-in-law: Susan Pinney; eight grandchildren: Brandi Maaks, Brian (KJ) Maaks, Beth (Jon) Mehn, Amy (Doug) Messerole, Todd (Ashley) Pinney, Laura (Adam) Gillespsie, Corri Taylor, and Jake Pinney. Nine great grandchildren: Emily Jean Maaks, Mayci Grace and Madison Taylor Maaks,carmon Banning, T.J. Hendrickson, Keagan Messerole, Colton and Dillon Pinney, Zac Mehn, Kennedy Gillepsie, and Melody Mehn, Special friends Pete and Ruth Fredericks, Joan Beckman.

He was preceded in death by his son: William Edward Pinney, his parents, one brother: William Earl Pinney, two sisters: Virginia Steffens and Dorothy Ott.

Jim was a retired self-employed auto mechanic and specialist. There was never a vehicle he couldn't find the problem with and fix. Jim set up and taught the very first auto mechanics class for Lincoln College at Logan Correctional Center in 1980.

 

Funeral Director

He set up several other auto mechanic classes for the correctional centers in the state of Illinois. Jim was very proud of his students' hard work as they became specialists in this field. Jim placed over 32 former residents in positions of this trade, and they were successful.

Jim was a member and the President of the congregation at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Jim was an active member of the American Legion Post # 263. He loved his God, his Country, and his Flag. Jim served in the U.S. Army from October 1950 to September 23, 1953, in Germany and Austria.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. Dan McQuality and Rev. Clarence Mankin officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
