[February 02, 2016]  SWIMMING & DIVING - The Lincoln College men's and women's swimming and diving team were in dual meet action this past Saturday against NCAA Division I University of Illinois at Chicago. Both the men and women Lynx were defeated by the Flames.

On the women's side Aunyx Ashby (Aurora, CO) continued her 50 freestyle winning streak beating the Flames with a time of 24.95. For the men Logan McDanel (East Moline, IL) continued his strong season scoring a majority of the points for the Lynx.

The Lynx Diving team will be back at UIC next Saturday February 6 at the UIC Diving Invite. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.

TRACK & FIELD:

The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Titan Invite over the weekend. The 16 team event had teams ranging from D1 to NAIA schools represented. Lincoln College was the lone Junior College team. The women's team finished 10th and the men's team finished 4th.

Placing in the top eight for the ladies was Mallory Tharp (Kirkwood, IL) with a 5th place finish in the mile, Kassy Dammerman (Effingham, IL) placed 7th in the 60 hurdles and the 4x400 relay team of Sala Hanne (East Moline, IL), Amber Pierce (Calumet Park, IL), Jamiera Stennis (Robbins, IL), and Raytoria Richardson (Joliet, IL) finished in 6th place.

Placing in the top eight for the men's team was Austin Picton (Canton, IL) in the 60 finishing in 7th place, Dontae Adams (Hamond, IL) 7th place in the 200, John Davis (Lincoln, IL) was 5th in the 5,000, John Smith (Hazel Crest, IL) was 2nd in the 60 hurdles, the 4x400 team of Earl Armstrong (Toledo, OH), John Lawrence (Wataga, IL), Alex Centi (Palm Coast, FL), and Roman Hampton (Peoria, IL) took 4th place. The distance medley relay of Austin Webster (East Moline, IL), Centi, David Williams (Cerro Gordo, IL), and Brayden Batterton (Delavan, IL) earned a 1st place finish while Daniel Welling (Monticello, IL) was 6th in the high jump. Jared Kern (Machesney Park, IL) continued his dominance in the shot with another 1st place finish while teammate Kyle Kling (Loves Park, IL) continued to improve and placed 3rd.

Head coach Brian Herron said, "I was pleased with most of our performances this weekend. Almost all of our athletes performed better than our previous meet and that is what we are focused on. We knew top 8 finishes would be very had to come by at this meet but we had several athletes meet this challenge. We also had several athletes just outside the top 8. Now we have to put in a hard week of practice to get ready for the Jim Green Invite."

The Lynx will be in action again this weekend at the Jim Green Invite hosted by Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL. The meet will start at 11:00 a.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Lincoln College women's basketball team hosted Parkland Collage on Saturday and fell to the MWAC foe 95-58 on Saturday. The Cobras took an early 20-12 first quarter lead and never looked back. Parkland (15-7, 3-0) shot 50.7 percent from the field including 10 of 23 from the arc. Lincoln (5-14, 0-3) was 25 of 67 from the field for 37.3 percent for the game.

The Lynx were 8-for-10 from the foul line while Parkland shot 17-of-21 from the charity stripe. Leading scorers for the Lynx were Keona Bolden (Springfield, IL) with 17 points and Kristin Engelhardt (Lincoln, IL) added 14 points. Also in double figures was Ashanti Barnett (Zion, IL) with 10 points. Bolden pulled down a team high nine rebounds. Engelhardt and Jasmine Malloy (Dekalb, IL) handout out four assists apiece.

The Lady Lynx will host the Cougars of Danville Area Community College on Wednesday, February 3 at 5:30 p.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The men's basketball team battled out a tough MWAC contest on Saturday and came away defeating the Cobras of Parkland College 58-55. Parkland entered the contest leading the conference with a 2-0 record while the Lynx had yet to earn a conference victory. With the win, the Lynx improve to 8-15 and 1-2 in conference play. Parkland drops to 13-9 and 2-1 in the conference.

Lincoln took a 29-26 lead into halftime and the three point difference proved to be enough in the end. Foul shooting woes doomed Parkland in the end as the Cobras shot just 11-for-21 from the line for 52.4 percent. Lincoln's defense held Parkland to just 33.3 percent from the field and just 6 of 20 from the arc. Lincoln shot 51.1 percent from the field for the game and made eight of the 12 free throws attempted for 66.7 percent. Juvon Turner (Chicago, IL) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. David Anderson (Peoria, IL) finished with 13 points and three blocked shots before fouling out with under four minutes to play. Steve Williams (Chicago, IL) added nine points and dished out six assists. Sophomore reserve Gage Klitz (Payson, IL) added seven points off the bench on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting including a monster 2-hand dunk to keep Parkland at bay late in the second half.

The Lynx will continue MWAC conference play on Wednesday, February 3 against Danville Area Community College. The home game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
