St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright will be the starter
on Opening Day, manager Mike Matheny said.
Barring an injury this spring, Wainwright will face the Pirates on
Sunday, April 3 at Pittsburgh.
Wainwright, 34, missed most of the last five months of the 2015
season after tearing his left Achilles tendon while batting during a
game on April 25 at Milwaukee.
Wainwright was 2-1 with a 1.61 ERA over just 28 innings in seven
appearances last season. He came back late in the season to pitch in
relief.

New Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly has adopted a policy
prohibiting the team's players from having facial hair.
The Marlins were allowed to have beards the past two years but
Mattingly changed the organization's policy after being hired.
"Guys will whine," Mattingly told reporters Sunday. "Some guys like
it; some guys won't. As long as we're consistent, I think it's not
that big of a deal." (Editing by Andrew Both)
