 The Military Assistance Act, which dates back to the 1870s, calls
for each county to establish a VAC. Many Illinois counties have VACs
which have been in operation for decades.
A proposition for official recognition of the Logan County
Veterans Assistance Commission will come before the Logan County
Board in February. A separate proposition to establish funding for
the Commission will appear on the March 15 ballot.
The Logan County VAC will be comprised of a Delegate and an
Alternate from each Veteran Post in Logan County.
 The VAC will offer a variety of services to honorably discharged
veterans, such as providing assistance with claims, distributing
information regarding benefits that a veteran may be entitled to,
and providing transportation assistance to VA medical appointments.
In addition, the VAC may offer limited emergency financial
assistance under qualified circumstances. The VAC will be working
closely with all County agencies to assist a veteran or family
member and provide information in such areas as job training,
apprenticeship programs and work study programs, and financial
planning. [to

The Veteran Assistance Commission was recently recognized by the Logan County
Economic Development Partnership whose Board passed a resolution endorsing the
creation of the VAC.
“The endorsement of the LCEDP is another testament that our veterans are
appreciated and that Logan County is a veteran-friendly county,” said veteran
Joe Schaler who is coordinating the VAC start up effort.
