Brett Huff led all scorers with 18 points for the Toppers and Adam
Arkebauer was the top man for Greenview with 16 points.
The Toppers dominated the contest from the beginning, jumping out to
an 8-0 lead to start the game. Greenview finally scored at the 4:23
mark on a basket by Tyler White to make the score 8-2. Mount Pulaski
extended their lead to 13-2 as a steal resulted in a pass from one
Huff to another and it was Huff twin Brett getting his first points
on the night with the bucket. Dalton Litterly stretched the lead to
17-2 when he drilled the trey around the minute mark. White would go
on to get the second basket for the Bulldogs and at the end of the
first quarter Mount Pulaski had a comfortable 17-4 lead. Mount
Pulaski did not let up to start the second quarter.
Brett Huff opened with a long three that was nothing but net and the
Toppers were up 20-4. Shortly thereafter, Brett decided to take
another one from 19.9 and it was good, too. Then it was White
showing a nice spin move in the lane to get Greenview back in the
scoring column, 23-9 now the Toppers lead. Mount Pulaski continued
cruising in the first half with Litterly and G Oliver combining to
score the remaining 9 points in the quarter.
Meanwhile the Bulldogs got some scoring from Jaice Willis, Arkebauer
and White and they managed to cut the Toppers lead to 32-17 at the
half.
Now the entertainment at the half is not only brought to you by the
fabulous MPHS Pep Band under the direction of the phenomenal David
Helm, but also the terrific Toppers cheerleaders. The cheerleaders
always sponsor the half court shot that draws fans of all ages from
the stands to give it their best half court heave-ho. On this night
it would be 11 year-old Clay Aylesworth, brother to Lukas, getting a
round of applause as he tossed the half court shot in, nothing but
net. A future Topper right there.
Resuming play back on the court with the big boys, someone woke up
Mount Pulaski’s sleeping giant Peyton Taylor. Taylor had been quiet
since his first basket in the first quarter but he made up for it
quickly by scoring eight points in the third. However, Brett Huff
wasted no time continuing his scoring run and he dropped in 10
points in the third quarter.
The troubles only escalated for the Bulldogs when White fouled out
with 13 points and 2:39 remaining in the third quarter. At this
point the Toppers lead was 48-23 and it only got worse, or of course
better if you’re a Topper fan. At the end of the third quarter Mount
Pulaski was up by 30 points, 59-29.
The Toppers bench performed well in the fourth quarter with Eli
Griesheim, Caleb Przykopanski, Zach Drake and Eli Olson getting in
the scorebook as Mount Pulaski put away the Bulldogs 77-51.
The Toppers improve to 7 wins and 8 losses on the season.
Greenview falls to 5 wins and 9 losses.
