[January 09, 2016]  (Reuters) - A New York Police Department officer was in stable condition on Saturday after being shot in the leg on Saturday in the Bronx, according to local media.

1010 WINS radio reported on Twitter that several other people where hurt in the shooting. It is unclear who did the shooting and what led to it.

A police department spokesman said he could not confirm whether a police officer was shot.

The shooting comes a day after a gunman claiming allegiance to Islamic State militants shot and seriously wounded a Philadelphia police officer, saying he ambushed his patrol car "in the name of Islam," according to authorities.
