NHL roundup: Blackhawks' win pushes Quenneville to No. 2 all-time

[January 15, 2016]  MONTREAL -- Corey Crawford turned in another strong performance to help the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

The win was Chicago's ninth straight and the 783rd of Joel Quenneville's coaching career, moving the Blackhawks' bench boss past Al Arbour to become the second-winningest coach in NHL history.

Crawford stopped 39 shots for the Blackhawks while Jonathan Toews and Ryan Garbutt scored.

Paul Byron connected for Montreal and Mike Condon made 31 saves for the Canadiens.

Capitals 4, Canucks 1

WASHINGTON -- Evgeny Kuznetsov notched two goals and an assist, Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots, and Washington defeated Vancouver for its fifth straight win.

Karl Alzner and Tom Wilson also scored as the Capitals picked up their 11th straight home win. Andre Burakovsky added two assists.

Radim Vrbata scored the lone goal for the Canucks.
 


Islanders 3, Rangers 1

NEW YORK -- Brock Nelson and Nick Leddy scored within the first five minutes and Kyle Okposo added an empty netter in the closing seconds of the third period as the New York Islanders topped the New York Rangers in front of a sellout crowd at Barclays Center.

Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves for the islanders and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 for the Rangers.

Marc Staal scored in the final minute of the second period for the Rangers, who have lost two of their last three and seven of 11.

Hurricanes 4, Blues 1

ST. LOUIS -- Jeff Skinner scored one goal and assisted on another to lead over St. Louis.

The win extended the Hurricanes' winning streak to a season-high four games and was their first in St. Louis since Dec. 11, 2010.

Brett Pesce, Brock McGinn and Riley Nash scored the other Hurricanes goals.

Jori Lehtera scored the lone goal for the Blues, his fifth of the season.

Jets 5, Predators 4 (OT)

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Blake Wheeler scored on a hard wrist shot just 51 seconds into overtime to lift Winnipeg over Nashville.

Dustin Byfuglien scored a pair of goals, and Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd also scored in regulation for the Jets.

James Neal scored the 200th goal of his NHL career to force overtime after Kevin Fiala scored his first NHL goal and Ryan Johansen and Eric Nystrom also scored in regulation for the Predators, who are winless in five games.

Avalanche 3, Devils 0

DENVER -- Calvin Pickard made 27 saves for his first career shutout as Colorado blanked New Jersey.

Matt Duchene, Carl Soderberg and Tyson Barrie scored for the Avalanche, who gained two valuable points in the tight Western Conference playoff race.

Cory Schneider made 23 saves for the Devils, who have lost five of six.

Red Wings 3, Coyotes 2 (OT)

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Danny DeKeyser took a feed from Dylan Larkin and beat Louis Domingue to the upper corner of the net at 2:08 of overtime as Detroit rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit to defeat Arizona at Gila River Arena.

Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings and Pete Mrazek made 27 saves.

Domingue made 22 saves for the Coyotes, who got goals from Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Shane Doan.

Sharks 2, Oilers 1 (SO)

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Joe Pavelski and Joonas Donskoi scored in the shootout as San Jose beat Edmonton.

San Jose's fourth straight win marked the first time this season the Sharks have won consecutive games at home where the season's second smallest crowd of 15,379 were in attendance.

The Sharks' Marc-Edouard Vlasic and the Oilers Nail Yakupov scored the regulation goals for their respective teams.
