[January 26, 2016]  Jan 25 (The Sports Xchange) - Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis underwent surgery Monday morning in hopes of stabilizing a broken right forearm enough to allow the 11-year veteran to play in Super Bowl 50.

Carolina coach Ron Rivera was optimistic that Davis will be able to play against the Denver Broncos on Feb. 7 in Santa Clara, Calif.

On the morning after the Denver Broncos ended his team' s season, Bill Belichick felt like it was his fault the New England Patriots won' t be playing in Super Bowl 50.

"Every player and coach, participant in the game wishes there were a couple of things they could do differently," Belichick said. "We all feel that way. I feel like it' s my fault.

Super Bowl 50 is more than a hot ticket, it' s a record-setter on the secondary market as of Monday.

The average price for a ticket to the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7 is $5,335 on SeatGeek, according to company content analyst Chris Leyden.

Leyden said the cheapest seat at Levi' s Stadium was $3,000 and prices for the best seats in the house near midfield were over $7,000.

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz signed a five-year contract extension that could keep him in Philadelphia through the 2021 season.

The deal includes $20 million guaranteed and will make Ertz the fourth highest-paid tight end in the league.

The 2016 Pro Bowl needed to identify 14 replacements for the roster now that the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers are headed to Super Bowl 50.

From the Broncos, cornerbacks Chris Harris Jr. and Aqib Talib and linebackers Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware must be replaced. From the Panthers, quarterback Cam Newton, running back Jonathan Stewart, tight end Greg Olsen, center Ryan Kalil, guard Trai Turner, fullback Mike Tolbert, linebackers Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis, defensive tackle Kawann Short, and cornerback Josh Norman won' t be going to Hawaii.

The Minnesota Vikings hired Pat Shurmur as tight ends coach.

Shurmur replaces Kevin Stefanski, who will move to running backs coach after Kirby Wilson became the Cleveland Browns' running game coordinator last week.

The Atlanta Falcons named Raheem Morris as their new wide receivers coach and hired Jerome Henderson as the passing game coordinator. Morris also will keep his title as assistant head coach.

Morris is entering his second year with the Falcons and his 14th year as a coach in the NFL. Last season he was named assistant head coach/defensive passing game coordinator.

The Los Angeles Rams named Michael Groh as their passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach.

Groh, 44, joins the Rams after spending the last three seasons with the Chicago Bears. He is the son of Al Groh, a former head coach of the New York Jets and a longtime NFL assistant.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired Brett Maxie as defensive backs coach.

Maxie comes to Tampa Bay after spending the past two seasons at Vanderbilt, working as the secondary coach (2014) and cornerbacks coach (2015). Prior to his time at Vanderbilt, Maxie spent two seasons with the Tennessee Titans (2012-13), serving as defensive backs coach.

The Miami Dolphins confirmed the hiring of former Canadian Football League head coach Danny Barrett as their running backs coach, along with other additions to Adam Gase' s staff.

The San Francisco 49ers hired former Cleveland Browns secondary coach Jeff Hafley to fill the same role, according to reports.

Hafley coached the Browns' secondary the past two seasons. He was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' coaching staff for two years before moving to Cleveland. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
