Quarterback Johnny Manziel's chances of playing in the NFL this season are very much in doubt, but he has a fallback.

Commissioner Scott Butera of the Arena Football League says it has a place for him.

"We could provide a strong platform for him to demonstrate that he is back," Butera told TMZ Sports. "We would also work with him and provide him whatever help he needed to live a healthy life."

Manziel, who is unsigned after being released by the Cleveland Browns in March, was suspended for the first four games of next season by the NFL earlier this week. In addition, Manziel faces further potential discipline from the league for violations of its personal conduct policy if he does sign with a team. His domestic assault case in Dallas is pending.

--Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie offensive lineman Dominique Robertson was shot Thursday morning in Loma Linda, Calif., and later detained by police.

Robertson, an undrafted rookie out of Division II West Georgia, was released from Loma Linda University Medical Center about 6 p.m. Friday, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

Police responded to the emergency room at the hospital at 3:28 a.m. Thursday where Robertson was being treated, according to the San Bernardino County sheriff.

--Houston Texans minority owner Philip Burguieres, who played a key role in helping owner Bob McNair bring the NFL back to the city, has died.

McNair, the Texans' founder, chairman and CEO, confirmed that Burguieres passed away on Thursday night.

Burguieres, a Louisiana native, and McNair had been friends and fellow Houston businessmen since the 1970s.
