[July 23, 2016]   July 22 (The Sports Xchange) - Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada was activated from the disabled list and started Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

Estrada was placed on the disabled list July 6 due to lower back soreness. The Blue Jays also activated left-hander Franklin Morales (shoulder) from the DL and optioned left-hander Aaron Loup and infielder Andy Burns to Triple-A Buffalo.

Estrada, 33, was named to the American League All-Star team but missed the game due to his injury.

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin (knee) did not start Friday after feeling lightheaded in the sauna on Thursday and twisting a knee in the shower.

The Cleveland Indians placed right-handed pitcher Joe Colon on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 19, with right shoulder inflammation, the team announced. Colon last pitched on July 16 against the Minnesota Twins. He took the loss in that 11-inning game and has been battling shoulder soreness since.

To take Colon's place on the roster, the Indians called up right-handed pitcher Cody Anderson from Triple-A Columbus.

Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall was in the original Cleveland starting lineup Friday, but manager Terry Francona pulled him because of a virus.

The Seattle Mariners put shortstop Ketel Marte (mononucleosis) was put on the disabled list after tests taken after he had a sore throat Sunday revealed a form of mononucleosis.

The Mariners also recalled infielder Luis Sardinas from Triple-A Tacoma.

The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Joey Rickard on the 15-day disabled list with a right thumb ligament injury he suffered in New York earlier this week. The move is retroactive to Thursday. Baltimore recalled outfielder Dariel Alvarez to take his place.

 Orioles catcher Matt Wieters (sore foot) was not in the starting lineup for a fourth straight day, but manager Buck Showalter said he is close to returning.

The Boston Red Sox activated right-hander Junichi Tazawa from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Noe Ramirez to Triple-A Pawtucket. Tazawa missed 12 games with a right shoulder impingement.

Red Sox reliever Koji Uehara, who is on the disabled list with a right pectoral strain, received a platelet-rich plasma injection Friday.

The San Diego Padres signed Cuban outfielder Jorge Ona, 19, for a reported signing bonus of $7 million, according to MLB.com. (Editing by Andrew Both)
