Illinois State Museum to offer behind-the-scenes tours of Research &
Collections Center

SPRINGFIELD
- The Illinois State Museum will provide guided tours of the
Research and Collections Center (RCC), 1011 E Ash St, Springfield,
IL 62703, on Saturday, July 30.

Tours will be scheduled between 9 a.m. and Noon and
1 - 4 p.m. The RCC houses the State of Illinois’ collection that
consists of more than 13 million objects. The RCC’s parking lot is
on 10 ½ Street between Ash and Laurel.
Guided groups of approximately 15 persons each will depart from the
RCC lobby every 15 minutes for a one hour behind-the-scenes tour
featuring the anthropology, art, geology, and zoology collections.
Museum curators and other experts will explain the process of
collecting, conserving, and studying objects that represent the
natural and cultural heritage of Illinois. At the end of the tour,
visitors will have an opportunity to submit questions to the Museum
staff that will be answered through social media and future
programs. An activity for children will also be available before and
after each tour.
