LINCOLN
- Heartland’s College NOW program gives students the opportunity to
earn free college credit while still enrolled in high school. The
program was offered for the first time last year at Lincoln High
School, has been offered at several high schools and career centers
and is now available at Lincoln Technical Education Center (LTEC).

According to Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Sarah
Diel-Hunt, “We’re trying to build a pipeline of students into high
demand occupational programs. Offering classes at LTEC is a great
way to show students all the possibilities for earning college
degrees and certificates that will lead to higher paying jobs in
applied or technical areas.”
Courses offered at the center include construction, certified
nursing assistance, medical terminology and welding. All are taught
by faculty who meet the State’s qualifications for teaching
college-level courses.
Through the program, students have the opportunity to take courses
at no charge that directly transfer to Heartland. This saves time
and money and also increases students’ confidence in completing
college-level classes.
“We train their faculty to instruct from our syllabi. This way,
students can earn credit from Heartland while being comfortable in
the familiar surroundings of their own high school,” Diel-Hunt
explained.

Lincoln Community High School started offering College NOW courses last school
year. Diel-Hunt hopes that adding this partnership with the career center in
Lincoln will forge an even deeper relationship.
