The Los Angeles Rams released quarterback Nick Foles on Wednesday
before veterans were due to report to training camp.
Foles, 27, had requested his release, a source told ESPN's Adam
Schefter. The Rams reportedly tried to trade Foles but were
unsuccessful.

Safety Kurt Coleman signed a three-year contract extension with the
Carolina Panthers.
Coleman spent his first five seasons primarily as a backup and
special teams player for the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City
Chiefs. He was twice a part-time starter in four seasons with the
Eagles (2011, 2012).

Veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams signed a one-day contract
with the Minnesota Vikings and is expected to formally announce his
retirement the following day.
Williams started 171 games over 11 seasons with Minnesota, earning
six Pro Bowl selections to tie him with John Randle for second in
team history behind Alan Page.

The Vikings signed offensive tackle Sean Hickey and rookie
linebacker Jason Whittingham to contracts on Wednesday.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed by the team, which has filled
all but one spot on its 90-man offseason roster.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and offensive
coordinator Josh McDaniels, in their first public comments since Tom
Brady's four-game suspension for the January 2015 Deflategate
incident was upheld, said they will keep the focus on the field, and
that means preparing Jimmy Garoppolo to start Sept. 11 at Arizona.

The Patriots added to their depth by signing tight end Bear Pascoe
and offensive guard Jon Halapio to contracts.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed by the Patriots, who also
placed defensive back Nate Ebner on the reserve/did not report list.
The 27-year-old is expected to participate in the 2016 Summer
Olympics with the United States rugby team.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been medically
cleared by his doctor to fully practice when training camp begins
Sunday.
Kaepernick received medical clearance on Tuesday from his Colorado
doctor to fully take part in practice for the first time this
season, the Sacramento Bee reported.

The New York Jets and free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick are
not talking about a contract as training camp opened.
The two sides remain far apart in determining the player's value and
no resolution is expected soon, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.

Rookie linebacker Darron Lee signed with the Jets, leaving only two
first-round picks from the 2016 draft unsigned.

The Philadelphia Eagles placed running back Ryan Mathews on the
non-football injury list with an ankle injury suffered last week,
the team announced Wednesday.
The injury is not considered to be serious, according to a
Philadelphia Inquirer report.

The Eagles signed rookie wide receiver David Watford, who was a
quarterback at Hampton and participated in the team's rookie
mini-camp on a tryout basis.

Safety Charles Godfrey, who signed a one-year contract with the
Atlanta Falcons in March, announced his retirement after two NFL
seasons.
In 2015, Godfrey played in eight games for Atlanta and recorded 12
total tackles, a forced fumble, and one pass defensed.

The Falcons also announced they signed tight end Arthur Lynch and
wide receiver Corey Washington.

The Washington Redskins added to their depth at wide receiver by
signing undrafted rookie free agents T.J. Thorpe and Kendal Thompson
to contracts.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed by the Redskins, who will have
their first practice at training camp on Thursday.

The Arizona Cardinals bolstered their depth by signing linebacker
Donald Butler to a contract.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team for Butler, who
collected 54 tackles, a half sack and a fumble recovery in 16 games
last season with San Diego.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed defensive end Jack Gangwish, a college
free agent out of Nebraska, ahead of Friday's first training camp
