Pigs and Swigs schedules for Barbecue events and Craft Beer events

[June 03, 2016]   LINCOLN - Today marks the beginning of the first of three great festivals to be held this summer in Lincoln. The Pigs and Swigs Festival features a number of barbecue competitions and some great food stands where various barbecued foods can be purchased. New this year will be a Steak Cook-off on Friday evening, and a People’s Choice tasting event on Saturday.

This weekend will also showcase the art of home brewing beers and the talents of micro-breweries within our region. The "Swigs" events begin this evening with a tasting event and the opportunity to vote for a People’s Choice. Saturday will include a homebrew competition as well as tasting events.

Live music will also be offered through the weekend in the "Swigs" area.

And, on Saturday at Scully Park will be the Kids Que competition for local youngsters.

To follow is a schedule of events for the weekend. Official program booklets will be available at the Festival on Friday and Saturday. Those wishing to participate in the People's Choice Barbecue Tasting, wristbands go on sale this morning. There are a limited number of these bands, so don't wait to the last minute if you wish to participate. Bands will be sold at the main BBQ concession area at the intersection of Kickapoo and Pulaski Streets.

Friday June 3rd

  • 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. - KCBS team registration and set up - Meat inspection available at the intersection of Kickapoo and Broadway Street (NW corner of Square)
  • 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - Check in for Backyard Competition - Lifepoint Church. 200 Block S Kickapoo
  • 4:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. - KCBS cooks dinner and meeting at the BBQ Event Tent on Kickapoo Street (West side of the Logan County Courthouse)
  • 5:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - Friday Night Steak Cook Cooks meeting at the BBQ Event Tent on Kickapoo Street
  • 7:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. - Turn-in for Friday Night Steak Cook Off at the door on the west side of the Life Point Church Building on Mclean Street

Saturday June 4th

  • 6:30 a.m. - Check in for Backyard Competition - 200 Block S Kickapoo
    8:45 a.m. - Backyard competition Cooks meeting
  • 9:22 a.m. - Blessing of the teams at the BBQ Tent event on Kickapoo Street
  • 9:45 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. KCBS Judges registration at Lifepoint Church - Corner of McLean and Pulaski Street. Enter door on west side of building on McLean Street
  • 10:30 a.m. - Judges meeting Life Point Church building. Same Location as above
  • 12:00 Noon - Kids "Que" Check in Center of Scully Park
  • 12:00 Noon - KCBS Chicken (11:55 - 12:05) turn-in
  • 12:30 p.m. - KCBS Ribs (12:25 - 12:35) turn-in
  • 12:45 p.m. - Kids "Que" cooks meeting at Scully Park Parent and child attendance is mandatory
  • 1:00 p.m. - KCBS Pork Butt (12:55 - 1:05) turn-in
  • 1:30 p.m. - KCBS Brisket (1:25 - 1:35) turn-in

  • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Bags Tournament
  • 12 Noon to 3:30 p.m. Homebrew Competition (turn-in begins at 11 a.m.)
  • 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. – VIP – Food and Beer Pairings with Hilltop Catering and Spirited Republic
  • 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Craft Beer Tasting and People’s Choice voting
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Danny Reinmann and Band
  • 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. – The Gizzards Band
