June 3 (The Sports Xchange) - Game 1 of the NBA Finals
was the most watched opener in 15 years in the United States.
The matchup between the defending champion Warriors and
Cavaliers on ABC drew a 13.1 overnight rating, according to
Neilsen. It is the highest mark for a Game 1 since 2001 when the
Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers received a 15.2 on
NBC.
This year's Game 1 fared slightly better last season's Game 1
between the same two teams when ABC received a 12.9 rating.
The game was highly popular in the home markets with Cleveland,
posting a 36.0 rating, and the San Francisco area, earning a
32.8.

Jeff Hornacek favored an up-and-down style of play during his 2
1/2 seasons as coach of the Phoenix Suns. He is apparently OK
with incorporating some of team president Phil Jackson's
preferred schematics into the offense in his second coaching
stint. Or perhaps Jackson had to bend to get the hiring done.
Hornacek, 53, was formally introduced as coach of the New York
Knicks on Friday and he said Jackson's beloved triangle offense
will be part of the offensive system. His vision is to blend his
beliefs with Jackson's philosophy to help the Knicks emerge from
a rut in which they have won just 49 games the past two seasons.
Hornacek reportedly received a three-year, $15 million contract
to help end the club's three-season playoff drought. He was
101-112 in Phoenix before being fired in February as the club
bottomed out with 19 losses in 21 games to fall to 14-35.
