The St. Louis Cardinals optioned second baseman Kolten Wong to
Triple-A Memphis following Sunday night's 6-3 win over the San
Francisco Giants.
The move opens up space on the 25-man active roster for the
expected activation of shortstop Jhonny Peralta.
Wong, 25, appeared in 49 games, starting 35, and was batting .222,
Peralta injured his left thumb on March 5 during a Spring Training
game and underwent surgery to repair ligament damage. He played nine
games during an injury rehabilitation assignment with three teams in
the minors.

The Washington Nationals reinstated first baseman Ryan Zimmerman
from the paternity list on Monday.
In a corresponding move, the Nationals sent one of their top
prospects, infielder Trea Turner, back to Triple-A Syracuse.
Zimmerman's wife, Heather, gave birth to their second child on
Thursday. He is hitting .250 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs in 48
games this season.

The Seattle Mariners recalled shortstop Ketel Marte from a rehab
assignment at Triple-A Tacoma and activated him from the 15-day
disabled list.
To make room for Marte on the 25-man roster, the Mariners optioned
outfielder Stefen Romero to Tacoma.

Marte, 22, appeared in five games with Tacoma after beginning his
rehabilitation assignment on May 31. He sustained a sprained right
thumb on May 21 at Cincinnati. (Editing by Steve Keating.)
